The Triumph Explorer 1200 represents Triumph's first foray in to the ultra-competitive big adventure bike class, competing against bikes like the BMW R1200GS, KTM 990 Adventure and new Honda VFR1200X Crosstourer. Video: Triumph Explorer 1200 first ride MCN editor Marc Potter...

You may have to wait years since I've waited So long for the new Trophy, I won't get off of it for quite some time.

If I can figure out how to refueling on the fly like a military airplane, I may never get off!

The dealer launch in Spain has finished. The dealers weren't allowed to ride the demo Tiger 1200s off-road. We can read in to that what we like but the message coming through is that this bike will handle smooth dirt roads and that's about it. So it's hardly an 'Adventure' bike is it? Anyway, we'll get to see it for the first time at our Triumph Day next week.

Well if it does not do dirt riding then I think it will turn out being a failed attempt at an Adventure bike and it will end up costing them big time

From sitting on it and leaning it from side to side, I think it will do as well off pavement as the BMW. It is most definitely NOT a motocross bike. But I think I could ride it safely on dirt roads and gravel roads. It looks like it should ford OK. I do not think it will do well in soft, dry sand. Most of the adventure bikes in this class have these same limitations. I will not trade my XC for one; but, it would be an ideal bike for trip I am making this summer.

I agree with your assessment, Gromit. But the Scrambler is not really an off road bike either. It can go off road and do so well; but it is too heavy for serious off road use.

That's what FS said about the Scrambler too. It's a fun bike but he wouldn't have done the Himalayas on it. Actually, the BMW's, KTM's also don't fare too well on the Himalayas - they do do it though but far more dangerously - I really have to get FS here so he can explain why!!! Anyway, he's champing at the bit to get his new Explorer! He and his bro-in-law from the UK already have a long trip planned for end of April - then I'll FORCE him to do a ride report! By hook or by crook :)

I must be honest and say that I don't care how the Tex compares to other Brands. Triumph is best for me and I have done 15000 kms of trouble free fun riding on my Tex . Is there a better brand ? Who cares
