Avion and I met up with our good buddy Erik this morning in the cold to witness something special. Erik has just acquired his first Triumph, a 2007 Speed Triple , and this was his first proper ride on it.

Unfortunately avion had an incident. He'd just emerged from early morning fog and a pigeon down at the roadside took to the air and struck avion square on, on the forehead part of his Shoei. It was a heavy blow and one heck of a mess.

Avion was a bit dazed but he shook it off.

Anyway, welcome Erik. He doesn't seem to miss the KTM Superduke that he's now sold and replaced with the Speedy!

Was just bit of a cold ride this morning but good fun anyway.

Eric's enjoying his new bike, got that stupid grin that accompanies the purchase of a Speed Triple. I'll leave the details for him to talk about.

Yeah that bloody pigeon, I'm not sure what speed I was doing as I was accelerating seeing as the fog had just cleared up. It exploded though, got loads of pigeon mince everywhere! Still taking feathers out of my helmet, I think the visor got hit too and deformed briefly as there were feathers and blood on the inside of the lens.
I haven't checked the lid or cleaned the bike, still in pain and a concussion. Nausea and headache, neck's sore too. Will see how bad it is tomorrow.

Feel a bit better after my second load of pain killers.

Had some fun as only street fighters can have on the way home through the plots though. I can see my tyres only lasting 2k kms now with Eric on one too.

Now there is a whole lot of triple looking for trouble!!! Lock up yer daughters boys the Triumphs are in town!!!
Sorry to hear about the pigeon incident. Damn good you had the Shoei or the blood level may have been way higher! Hope you are o.k. Avion!?

Erik get used to that "stupid grin" because as long as your riding a Triumph.......its inevitable had one since '02 when I bought my first Speed3 and it hasn't stopped since. :y2:
Its a "sickness" but a damn good one:y15:

Erik, congratulations on the Speed Triple. It is a fine looking bike - and loads of fun. Welcome to the world of Triumph.

Dave, thanks for the pics. Looks like a really good ride with the exception of the pigeon killer. :y2:

G, the animal rights folks are gonna be mad at you. Seriously, I am glad that you did not get seriously injured.

I was riding along about 35-40 MPH on a country road here in Pennsylvania one day when a wild turkey flew up out of the culvert.

Anyone that's ever seen a wild turkey fly knows they zig zag around which made it tough to duck out of it's way.

It hit me square in the visor of my full face helmet (thank goodness I had on a full face).

It nearly knocked me off the bike (wild turkeys are quite a bit larger than a pigeon)!

I didn't realize it until I stopped, but it must have scared the turkey more than me because it pooped like 2 litres all down the front of a $300+ leather jacket!

It was hot and sunny, so by the time I got home it was a dried white mess. I took it to several cleaners who all said it was hopeless and the jacket was a write-off.
