Stopped by one of my suppliers today and grabbed some of the supplies to build the pens for the Monthly Photo Contest raffle.

Exotic woods. . . African and South American selections

Texas Ebony

Osage Orange which is also called Horse Apple, Bois 'd Arc, $&#Â¥ing thorn tree. I didn't purchase any of these, I think I still have some in my shop. It is one of the poorest looking woods available until you turn it down for the pens, then the beauty of the wood comes out. Not highly figured, just a beautiful color especially as it ages.

Very cool. IS this just a pen mfct. supply store or do they sell these woods for other en devours? I ask because I have never seen a collection of so many types of wood....in such small section before.

It's a Woodcraft Store and this is just a small section. They also provide many of these woods in larger sizes. In the past I've seen guitar (Strat/Tele/SG sized) body woods but none were available today.

I didn't get a photo of them but on the left side of the aisle was the pen hardware.

Nice selection they have

The selection comes and goes. I was half expecting to find a reduced selection, there was a few species I was hoping to see but couldn't find which seems odd since they are common trees here in the US. I think I still have the ones I didn't find but I wanted to add to my supply.

It's also a good place to learn to operate different woodworking tools. They usually have classes every evening and several during the day on Saturday. One of these days I'm going to take a bowl turning class and turn a few sets of bowls.
