Our vintage bike club had a ride scheduled for 14 June, the day before Father's Day, but it poured rain all weekend.
Saturday, 21 June dawned fairly bright with only a threat of showers so 17 of us gathered for the ride along the coast to the coastal town of Mahone Bay for lunch. It's only 70 km's (42 miles), but it's a pleasant ride along the coast and we take lots of time getting there.
Here we are at a resting place half way there.

In the 1800's, the village of Mahone Bay was at one time a thriving mill town of factories, ship building and fishing. But time marched on and all that faded away. It's mainly a residential village catering to the tourist trade now.
Mahone is a British contraction of a French word "mahonne" which means "low-slung pirate ship." Back in the old days pirates found a haven in the village and the hundreds of islands just off shore - hence the commonly known name. When the British defeated the French for possession of Canada, many French names were changed to more British sounding names.
The village had the foresight to preserve many of the factory buildings and turned them into the retail and eating establishments we see today.
This is the Mug & Anchor pub where we had lunch. The second level is the pub and the view from the balcony is below.

In the harbour are what I assume are floating cottages. (?)

All in all, a great day for a ride even if it was cooler than expected, but at least it didn't rain.
