I found the pictures from 1960 which show my father digging out his cars behind our house.
My car is in the bottom photo.

That's a true white out. I just hope that when that lot melts peoples homes don't sustain severe flood damage. Or worse more people lose their lives.

I just heard from my sister who lives in Toronto and they got some of that storm too, but nothing like what Buffalo got. Not even close!
For Canada it was just a normal snow storm that closed schools and made traveling the streets difficult.
Higher temperatures are coming to the Buffalo area in a few days and yes indeed, flooding will be a worry.

The only similar storm that I can remember in this area happened back in 1960 or 1961. I have B & W pictures of our buried cars.
I think I posted those a couple of years ago in a similar thread.
More recently (circa 2004 or 2005) we had a severe storm and I was snowed in for three days before the city could get to my street - even though I live right in the center of the city.
I was already retired and we didn't lose electrical power so we were fine with lots of food on hand and the furnace oil tank was full.
I busied myself with my snow blower clearing my driveway and sidewalk, then I just waited fore the city plow to come.

And after looking at Rocky's pics, this is why I choose to live in Florida!

These are the pictures from 2004. Ten years! Wow, it doesn't seem that long ago!
I managed to get out through the basement door and start clearing a path to my driveway.
It was a beautiful day after the storm (as it usually is) so the conditions were pleasant....well, pleasant for us....maybe not so pleasant for you southern boys :y2: :y15: :y15:
Then it was just a matter of waiting for the city to come by and clear the street. On the third day after the storm the plow came by.
As I said before, I didn't have to go anywhere so it didn't matter to me.

Yup, I agree, summer is gone. Just got dumped on with about 35 cms of heavy wet snow in what we Maritimers call a Nor'easter. Knocked out power in our area from 11PM last night to around 5PM today. Was just getting the generator set up after work and the power came back on. Ain't that always the way it goes. Just like this morning, got the driveway snow blown, left for work and the plow finally shows up on our road. Wife had to get the "kids" to clean up the entrance so her car could get out.
What a change from 2 days ago when it was 14C and I went for my last quick ride on the Tbird before winterizing itSAD
