We got an inch of rain here at the house but the drive home this morning was pretty spooky. There was cloud to ground lightening all over the county, it was really lighting up the morning sky just before dawn. I've seen no fire reports from lightening strikes so I guess we dodged the bullet on that.

Now all we need is 26 to 30 inches of rain to get back to normal.

The only fire reports I've heard were for a couple large illegal burns. The idiots thought since we got a little rain they could do some burning.

As the month of November is knocking on the door the fires are out and the fire crews are starting to gather their gear and getting ready to head home. There are still trucks and crews in the area from Utah, Alaska, California and Missouri just to name a few.

As the crews were gathering to be released to go home, this photo was taken of some of the Texas Firefighters. I thought you might like to see a photo of some of them.

I had a ride scheduled this morning but most of the group couldn't make it. Two of the others looked at the radar and saw there was a light rain falling at our destination so they backed out also. Since I was already at our meet up spot I decided to ride thru the forest. As I hit the road I decided to ride thru the Tri-County Fire location.

I had the camera rolling and had my point & shoot camera with me so I planned to capture some images of the damage.

Well I attempted to raise the GoPro to get some better views but this backfired on me, the video is pretty shaky and at times real hard to watch. As I was getting into the fire area looking for the area I had seen on the news I started seeing rain headed my way. I didn't want to get caught in a storm with all the log trucks on these narrow roads so I started making tracks to get out of the area. As I was heading down one road the woods to the west were burnt and the east side was showing no damage. In other locations there would be large untouched areas surrounded by burnt woods and pastures.

I started smelling smoke and the further I got down the road it was getting stronger. With the overcast skies I couldn't see smoke but I could tell I was right on top of it. That was when I realized I was coming up on a log truck and the smoke I was smelling was from the logs on his truck. They weren't burning but the smell coming from the logs was so thick I could have cut it with a knife.

I'll try to salvage some of the video and post what I can come up with. I do plan to head back over there in the not too distant future with the GoPro set in a more secure manner and grab some still photos.

The route I took this morning is in the map link below. The fire area I rode in is from "D" to "H". I was wanting to get to an area south of "G" or to the northwest of "E" & west and northwest of "F" to see the major burn areas.

LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN!!!!!

Central & East Texas is getting some much needed rain. It's raining again for the second time in three days and a ton more still moving into the area. We are still 26 to 32 inches below normal and some of this is just making up for the average rain this month and won't help the shortfall but it will help us from dropping even more.

LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN!!!!!

I wonder if I should put some pontoons on the car for the drive home in the morning, make that later this morning.

From January 1, 2012 to March 11, 2012 we have hit the rain total equal to the rains from January 1, 2011 to November 8, 2011.

The local lake is now sitting right at 80% of pool level, we still have right at 3 1/2 feet to go to reach normal pool level. Hopefully we have broke the back of the drought, only time will tell.

We also are at the tail end of the wettest summer that I can remember. The dams are full and the bush is lush. That means lots of fuel to go up in flames next dry season. SAD
