We whine and complain about the winter; the snow; the cold; the rain; lousy spring weather, but at least we don't get killer storms like that.
As MOT said, how in the world do you pick up and basically start your life all over again FACE
Thank you, but I'll put up with the cold and snow for a few months.
All that said, hurricanes and tail ends of hurricanes are more of a threat here than they used or be.

Well said Rocky. That's one reason I like living near Pittsburgh. The worst disasters we get are bad snow storms and I live on high ground away from any potential river floods

People in that area have been going thru weather like this for as long as there has been people in the area. It doesn't make this or any storm they have or will go thru any easier. Just a fact of life for them.

This weather is created much the same way a lot of the snow storms in the Northeast are created. Warm, moist Gulf air lifts across Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and collides with unstable air moving across the regions to the north. This time there was a lot of the moist air and the weather warnings reached from as far south and west as Washington County, Texas and up thru much of the country.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors to the north.

We have an alert at work. . . Suspend all testing or work on critical equipment until 2200 4/28/2014. The first alert was for up to 1700 but was updated at 1600 with the current end time. . . More bad weather appears to be brewing and headed across the Plains, just moved out of the Rockies.

Tornado just south of Jackson, MS. There was a short lived tornado southwest of Newnan, GA. It dissipated before it reached Newnan. Newnan is the hone of Triumph in the US. So far there have been at least 16 tornadoes today - MS, TN, GA, AL. And it is not over yet. Mobile, AL and Pensacola, FL have also had severe weather.

s,

One of our locations, Mayflower.

The bucket truck. . . or what's left of it is sitting where the line control house was.

The structures used to have solid conductors on top of them, some can be seen on the ground, others. . . no telling where they are.

Newscasters flee when word comes in that tornado is approaching their station in Tupelo, Mississippi
I don't blame him one bit. A tornado is nothing to fool around with and the one that hit Tupelo was a monster.

The destruction boggles the mind!!!!
It's almost like it can't be real!!
You have to see it in person to fully appreciate it. The death toll is up to 28 and more storms are on tap for today. There are flash flood warnings for most of the Southeast including the panhandle of Florida.

Very sad indeed, I cannot imagine living in areas that has stuff like this on an ongoing basics

Arkansas town flattened by twisters | On Air Videos | Fox News

On the plus side, most of these big/killer tornadoes occur in the spring and not year round. These larger storms are generally created due to cold fronts moving thru the area and meeting up with the moisture being pumped up out of the Gulf of Mexico by high pressure. The moisture and cold front usually meet over the Plains States wrecking havoc mostly in Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas but it's not confined to just these three states. These three states do seem to experience the worse of it.

Most of the storms you see me talking about and hit us with rain or snow (depending on the time of year) originate from the Gulf of Mexico area too.
They usually track northeast and head right for this area. Sometimes we're lucky and they blow out to sea.
The tail end of the storms that hit Oklahoma and Arkansas will be here on Thursday, but will have petered out and only be a rain event for us - as if we needed more rain :y40:
