They are not in the cheap range, mine cost $229.00 two years ago but a normal battery from a reputable brand was $180.00 and I was assured at that stage the brand I am buying is top of the game as it's their main focus vehicle/motorcycle battery's. So the added bonus of less weight, no acid, no corrosion was the extra money worth and the battery has a standard 24 month warranty.
Hopefully by now that it's a bit more in the market place the pricing is a bit more competitive, and we can get rid of the "dirty" battery's.

It is the summers that kill the battery more than the winters. You usually notice the battery having problems in the winter but it was the heat of the summer before that usually kills it. People do less battery maintenance during the summers because they think the winter is when they need to be more careful. Yes, the vehicle is harder to start in the winter but this is due to thermal properties of the engine and the condition of the battery following the summer use.

No you don't, what type of charger are you using? I only ask as some chargers come with a special connector lead that you can fit to the battery to make the actual connecting to the battery easier and a proper connection, without removing the battery.

I use a battery tender with the extra plug sticking out from under the seat.
