The outside portion of my speedo cable is just fine. The inside stranded cable which does the actual turning from the gear to the speedometer is what I need.I Purchased a universal cable repair kit to make my own. The ones available locally are all about 30 thousands too thin. All the brands are similar ?? Are the triumph (inside cables) generally thicker ?

Bike is 1973 Triumph Tiger 750 TR7R

hi gene

i've always bought the complete assembly of inner and outer together, so i don't know what size the universal ones are. try it and see. i think that the worst that could happen is that it might wear out a bit quicker.

the important thing about an undersize cable would be if there isn't enough metal left after you square off the ends to secure itself in the speedo mechanism above and the drive box below. i've had cables before that were too narrow to seat securely into the drive box and solved that problem by inserting a narrow U-shaped piece of soda can into the square cavity to reduce the size something closer to the cable.
