I was born and raised on a farm in a rural area that didn't have electricity until right after WWII. I remember kerosene lamps very well.
We also pumped water by hand. It was quite a revelation to get lights at the flick of a switch and a water pump.
But I agree, we're all very spoiled with the modern conveniences of daily life that electricity provides.
We rarely lose power unless there has been a storm or some idiot takes out a power pole.
