I too always build mine better than what would be the code, but then again we don't have any real code around here and there is nothing you can't do yourself and stay within the guidelines. Here only commercial properties have to meet a code by using professionals. Some items (sewers, irregation systems, water wells) around a home must meet code but can be done by anyone and just has to pass inspection.

Interesting tidbit, well it is to me, all electrical work falls under the national electric code and/or fire code except for one group. Power plants do not have to meet the electrical code.

I agree with that is it is a place you going to stay in do better than what is required and you at least know you will not need to come back to it at a later stage. When I do renovations I always tell the contractor if they see some potential problem lets rather address it while they are at it

8 mtr of 200 X 100 steel was just delivered.
Now (well over the next week or six) comes the cutting, jacking into position and welding. A mate is going to do the welding for me as it has to be done overhead and to structural standards. My skills don't go much past downhand, I'll do a bit of uphand but no way with overhead.
