It's that time of year. Hurricane season began June 1st and we are getting hit my tropical storm Andrea today. The rains started yesterday afternoon and we have a 100% chance of rain today with flood warnings and a tornado watch. Andrea is a minimal tropical storm so the winds are only about 35 - 45 mph. We have thunderstorms with worse winds than that. Obviously, this is not a day for riding; the Tiger stays in its den today.

A tornado warning was just issued for Osceola County which is just south of Disney World.

It looks like Rocky will get the effects of Andrea Saturday and Sunday.

I was watching her on radar overnight, figured you were getting a little wet. We keep radar up 24/7/52 due to our broad service area and weather can play a big part on how our unit operate whether its these summer systems or winter systems.

Y'all take care, like you say a minimum storm but she's packing a bunch of rain.

I just hear the news about the storm.
We're being advised to prepare for moderate winds and some heavy rain overnight Friday into Saturday and all that day.
I used to have five maple trees here on my city property, but two storms took three of them down without damage to my buildings or the neighbours. Lucky is not the word for that!!!!
The two remaining will be a threat to me and a neighbour so, with great reluctance, I've contracted to have them taken down.
The trees are about 55 years-old and a big part of my life all the 50 years I've lived here, but they are very large and high now and would do considerable damage if a severe hurricane hits us. I still don't know how they withstood Hurricea Juan.
Better to be safe than sorry I guess CRY

You guys must keep safe. I could never live with this type of extream weather. Rocky I know how you feel about the trees as I now have 3 that need taking down. Swhen I moved into my house 13 years back I planted them so I am rather attached to them SAD

Carl, you guys nail down the hatches and stay safe.

Rocky, sorry about having to take down your trees. I hate having to take down big, old trees but as you said, better safe than sorry.

No more free maple syrup at Rocky's place!

ROTFL
Yes, I love trees and I'm sorry to see my maple trees go, but there is now too much risk since we are more likely to get the tail ends of hurricanes or maybe even a direct hit like Jaun did to us a few years ago.
The maples have made great shade trees all these years, but it is what it is.
I saw the damage and destruction Hurricane Juan did to my neighbours and the city in general with falling trees and I can't just let that happen. That would be irresponsible and there's just too much at stake in terms of property damage and possible injuries or worse.

Rocky, I'm sorry to hear you will be losing your trees, it's never good to lose something you have "grown" up around.

I will offer you a way to have the trees around a little longer or possibly have them last into the next generation of Rocky's. If when they are cut down you were to grab a small section of the trunk I will be more than happy to make you a couple pens from the trunk. If you can get a 1"x1" (2.5 cm X 2.5 cm) piece cut with or slightly diagonal with the grain that is 7" (18cm) long I can make you a pen from it. For more than one pen I could possibly get two from that piece depending on how it reacts to the drying process. To be on the safe side I would probably need 1 piece the size stated above to ensure there is enough after drying to produce additional pens for you. I can not promise the pens would be finished soon due to the wood being green but could get it done shortly. Just let me know if you would like to do this and we can work out the details of getting the wood to Texas and discuss the style pen you would like to have.

I'm humbled by your generous offer, hemi. What a guy your are TUP TUP
But now that the decision has been made, I'm going to just let the trees go and let that be the end of it.
We're already talking about planting new bushes and shrubs, landscaping, etc., so we're moving on.
Thanks for being so thoughtful and generous.

The storm is about 24 hours late in arriving and hasn't even reached us yet.
The leading edge of the rain is here, but that's it! Winds are expected to be light.
From the weather forecast, we expected the storm to pass over on Saturday and leave us Sunday for a ride, but the center of the storm won't even be here until later this evening so that washes out the weekend CRY

Yesterday afternoon I was watching a news report from Florida and could not believe what I was seeing and hearing. The reporter was showing what looked like a normal Florida spring/summer thunderstorm and commenting the people were freaking out. To top it off they found some woman that was either a good actor or had never been in a thunderstorm before, she was dang near hysterical with fear from a thunderstorm.

Quite a bit of wind damage and flooding in parts of Florida was shown on our news last night. That surprised me as it seemed that the strorm wasn't supposed to be all that serious.

The rains produced local flooding, relatively minor. The storm surge as the center came ashore was near high tide and that caused flooding in the coastal areas south of the center. It was not a major storm by any means - media hype.
