I don't know if anyone has noticed but we seem to have at times threads hijacked, not very often but it does happen :y2:

Now I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this as most forum will simply delete such posts. The thing is we seem to have become very accustom to it here but any new member may find it a bit strange.

Now I know at times a thread may take a bit of a different direction but the content would still remain constant.

Oh and I think I may be guilty of doing this as well at times :y27: :y21:

So lets hear your thoughts on this then

I think if its a serious thread then care should be taken to keep it on topic.
If its an informal or light hearted thread then I think a bit of sideways wandering is perfectly acceptable.
At the end of the day, if a thread starter is unhappy about a thread going o t then there is an appropriate reminder in the smiley box.
I think wot makes this forum as good as it is,is that most of us can handle a bit of o t and banter, and the forum rules are livable, start deleting threads for o t and I feel folks may get upset.
My two cents worth anyway.:y16:

Yes we don't want to just delete posts as that is not how we have ever worked here. I am more worried about the serious technical threads as this may be where a new members is looking for help or information and the threads goes all off in another direction :y10:

Oh OK - I'll stop giving technical advice then!

I agree with Devo - serious/technical should stay on track but Lounge in particular is a 'chatting' place - I don't mind if it meanders somewhat.

We can use duct tape to patch up a hijacked thread.
