Greyfell, welcome to TT, glad to have you with us, i love the old vintage bikes, Triumph most of all, i have a 76 t140v bonne and like Rocky i ride it locally and very short trips, the vibes are to much on my old fart body. That leads me to steer you toward the 'new' Triumph Speed Twin but probably because it is a very premium bike and my favorite, check out the article in the new issue of Cycle World, my copy just came in yesterday.

And she likes "heavy metal"

So what bikes are on your short list Greyfell??

I'm trying to focus on finding a good deal on a used Street Twin, Scrambler or 800XC. Not so easy to do when they all look very cool!
I would (of course) lean towards the Tiger, then the Scrambler. --IF you plan to do ANY off roading. Also ...and this is a personal preference but the Tigers sit up HIGH for bikes---like S.U.V.'s you can see (and be seen) OVER the vehicles around you......good safety tip that. ;)

Yes, I want to sit higher; not ride standing on the pegs, like I've seen a couple people do the last two days.

I have owned Cruisers.....standradrs and dual sports (and dirtbikes) IMHO for the most versatile all around bike that give you the best of all worlds .....BIG Trailies. Tigers ---Honda Trans ALp ---Suzuki V-strom etc. (power to weight ratios and AWESOME triple cylinder powerplant----hands down TIGER beats all ) ----yes I am a touch "prejudice---- I have owned over 20 bikes.....at one time I had 5 in my "stable......I now own 1 and only 1.
Street Triple is a ripping ton of fun.
Do you have a Misses? Will she be riding with?
Do you plan on touring LOOOOOOOOONG miles?
Or are you just weekend and bar to bar blasting on weekends? Ripping through heavy city commutes?
So many uses so many options but you have 3 very good "short listers"

At this time, I'm thinking 150 miles is a loooooong ride. But I do want to cruise through some of the Sierra Nevada scenic routes, so 150 is something I better work up to. Up to now, no significant others, yet I look forward to a lady cuddling up behind me. ;) It would be Ok if she had her own bike, even if it had more cc's. My daily commute is just over 3 miles, and my car hardly warms up, so commuting on the bike is definitely a consideration.
