Heated Grip vs Heated Gloves

I really like the idea of the battery powered heated gloves. I'll see what's available for woman. You guys are lucky when it comes to gear. The choices are quite limited for woman, especially if you don't want everyhting in pink. To be honest, I need to invest in some warmer gloves anyway. They may as well be heated. If I can find some that aren't too cumbersome, I think that may be the ticket. I like the idea of heated grips but I don't see myself taking the time to install them right now. Too busy. Thanks everyone for your input. I'll let you know what I can find.

Laura, for battery heated gloves check outdoors sports stores such as REI, Gander Mountain, Bass Pro Shops, etc. They carry gear for women.

I'm reviving this thread.

I ordered some heated grips for my bike today. The ones that you put under your existing grips. I did a fair amount of research and I decided to go with the Symtec Heat Demons. $38 including shipping on Amazon.com.

I don't ride in really cold weather (rarely less than 50F) and dislike thick gloves a lot... even skiing. I thought for the price, they're worth a try. I'll keep you posted!

You can also buy heated glove liners. They're pretty thin these days. Haven't seen any at a price I'd pay though. I'm happy with my heated grips and hand guards.

Im seriously thinking about this option too. I bought some new Triumph gloves which are ever so slightly thicker than the Portland model. The fit about bigger so I think a liner would fit. As long as they are battery operated though. That would be my criteria. I don't have any other heated gear. Great suggestion.

anyone else have experience installing the under grip warmers? Always looking for tips.

Grrrr. Can anybody help me out? It appears I ordered the ATV version of the Symtec heat demons under grip heaters. I'm trying to find out the difference between them and the motorcycle ones with no luck. The draw the same current. Same wiring directions etc. both 7/8" diameter. Do I need to return these or are they really the same with different labels.

I do have 1" bars. I think both types (ATV and motorcycle) are 7/8". I think I found the difference though, examining the photos. It appears the clutch heating element is different on the motorcycle version is different. I assume to prevent the throttle tube from melting.

I will look around for different brands that make a 1" version. I didn't think the size would make that big of a difference though. I just thought it would have a 1/8" cold spot which I could live with for the price.

Also, so, I would need to fabricate a place for the switch. Not sure I could do that.

Back to to the drawing board.

My brother put Triumph heated grips on his Rocket III, they are 1". They should fit the T100.

I'm too cheap to buy those. They run $250. The under grip heaters are $40-50 but way more work to install etc. I like my grips (Biltwell Kung Fu's) and want to keep them. Also, I've read a lot about the slide on grips with the heaters in them are pretty thick. I don't have really big hands so I want to keep things as slim as possible.

I reordered the same ones with the different heating element on the throttle side just to be safe. I would hate to melt the throttle tube. The main thins I am grappling with now is where to install the rocker switch. I'm going to have to fabricate something which is not my forte so I am open to suggestions. I want to keep my cluster clean and original looking. The rocker switch is 13/16" in diameter if that helps.

thanks!

I agree; pull them on; turn them on and away you go. No wires to fiddle with; no reworking of the bike for heated grips that you won't use 80% of the time.
If the cold season is relatively short (a couple of months) and the riding distance to work is relatively short, I think this may be the best solution.
All of this has me thinking about battery operated gloves now :y2:
But my bikes are parked for the winter so maybe next year.

I am going to have to check these out too. We're in the middle of moving house the day before we leave for FLA and I had a friend volunteer to store the Bonnie over the winter for me. Rode to his place yesterday about a two hour ride in 5 degree c temps and found it not too bad but heated gloves would have helped! Just made frequent stop at "Tim's" on the way!

Yep. I may just install some sort of power outlet on my bike instead. Likely a USB port for my phone.

I'll look into the heated gloves and liners instead... again. The options still are pretty limited for women though. Running wires up sleeves atc seems like a bigger pain than flipping a switch on my grips.

I'm a bit late getting back on this discussion, but, there's a newer type of "hippo hands" out. You probably can find them at a snowmobile shop, or website, and they are called "Polar Hands". They're made of nylon, are more compact, and are velcroed down the length both top and bottom, which makes getting the cables and mirrors through them much easier. They also can be tightened on "closed" end, if you will, and that helps a lot to keep the cold wind out. I used a pair for years on my '76 BMW, then found some "Hippo Hands" which I didn't like nearly as much. When I got my Trophy I ordered the heated grips which, with heated gloves, was just the ticket. I gave the "Polars" to a friend, and later on decided to buy another set of them at a local accessory shop. Now, with the T100, if the heated gloves don't do the trick, I'll try them again. The "Hippos" wouldn't fit the T100, I'm sure.......very well made, but very big.

Anyway, that's just the "village idiot's" take on it: Jim
