My parents had a Finnish Kalevala, I’m not sure where it ended up. As a kid, I read some of it, but didn’t finish it . LoL. I think I could do better now and understand it as well better. My wife is Finnish, I met her when I went to Finland after my university studies. So we do speak Finnish at home and she even got me to read some. I worked in Finland for nearly ten years so I did pickup a lot better understanding than I had as a kid. It’s a shame the old book was lost by my parents. Can’t ask them now, they are beyond asking. LoL. I might see about finding a copy. It really is something I was always fascinated by. Hyvää Juhannusta!
LOL. Looks like you are more a ''Finn'' than me :). My father comes from Skåne/Scania (the most southern corner of Sweden and his ancestors had lived there as the area belonged to Denmark. So I probably have some Danes blood, not just Swedish blood via him. My mother is Finnish-Swede from Ostrobothnia Finland (but hers familyline can be tracked back to Sweden 17th century as most of her other ancestors). Via her I have also gotten small part of Western Finns blood. How I know? The genealogy is hobby of my mother. We have talked Swedish at home. I have studied Finnish at school. I'm basically a ''Swede'' who has lived in Finland. In Sweden my dialect exposes me and I'm more outspoken than Swedes tends to be. I do not belong there either :(. Åland (a group of small islands between Sweden and Finland) could fit the best for me.

Hey, you always have a home here. I don't judge and I enjoy the diversity this forum brings to the table. But in truth I'll take a slice of that cake ANY DAY!!

The only question is, we gonna get to see you in that dress and shoes???

Lol. Nope. But the Midsummer party as such was a great: Good weather, Good company, Good food, Good music etc. Just a bit of mosquitos, but those did not disturb me too much.
I hope all of you had a nice weekend.

Now just one week of work ahead and then my summer vacation starts :giggle:.

I bought my favorite Finnish summer drink to celebrate the solstice, but wasn’t really feeling great.

It’s a gin grapefruit drink with juniper berry flavoring. It was developed by the Finnish government for the 1952 summer Olympics in Helsinki. Had my first one in the 1960’s with my grandad. LoL.

This is the original one:

But I doubt you have that on sale in the USA? Personally I do not like its taste. Over all I do not drink alcohol. No beers. Just a glass of wines in dinners, or Champagnes/Caves in New Year Eve/Midsummer.

Tiny 4cl of Swedish Punch can make you good if you're sick (got cold etc.).

Yes, the drink I got is Finnish, but bottled here in the USA. It’s the same drink from what I can tell. It’s very hard to find anything here actually bottled in Finland or any of the other fine alcoholic drinks. Finlandia vodka is available, but I almost don’t even count it as Finnish. The parent company is now CocaCola. LoL. There’s a lot of spirits from Sweden and Finland that just don’t get exported. So when I found Lonkero was being produced here I had to try it. My drinking habits are not strictly Finnish, but a mix. I do practice moderation however.

I like those temps (15 / 16 C and 24 / 25 C Day ) . Summer here is very normal , about June 21 till Sept 21 . My ancestors were Normans so I have some Scandinavian / Danish genes diluted mostly by Brits I imagine .
On our western Nova Scotia trip we were in the woods , 31C , and an hour later we were at the Hawk , the most southerly tip of the province and it was just 17 C . If you get to Nova Scotia , the Hawk is a must . Stunning is the best word for it .
