Question on the speedo Gear drive that runs off the rear wheel I noticed that when I try it( when off the bike) ( it binds) when I turn it by hand , after turning it it several revolutions. It appears sloppy . When watching it it appears the 2 gears are trying to run on top of one another periodically.

If mine in fact is worn out can it be disassembles & rebuilt or do I need to buy a complete drive ? Money is a little tight .Are there used ones out there or repos that are good ? Maybe a good source for one? gene in Mn

Hi Genetoo, unless the speedo drive feels perfectly smooth when you turn it then it needs replacing. Not possible to repair. They do need constant greasing hence the grease nipple. I bought one made by Emgo when I had to change the gearing to use a klm reading speedo from the mph one. Not expensive and helps to give a nice steady speedo needle. Now done over 10,000 klm's with no issues. Look identical and you can even buy a reproduction of the original sticker should you wish.
