Yes. Silicone will not help as it is not good at filling gaps. A buddy of mine tried it with threaded water pipe and it didn't work fot that either.

I wouldn't even make the gap bigger. First use a clean wire brush to remove any surface grime and loose stuff, then apply putty as previously mentioned.

Good luck!! :y16:

Since our Tech Guru hasn't properly addressed this issue. . . Have you thought about Duct Tape? :y2:

I'm no help here Dave, if it was a boat I could offer some advice on cracks but the only thing I know about pools and cracks is that when I see one I tell 'em to pull up their trunks.

I was thinking the same thing, but I'm certainly no expert.
I think the key to a good repair is to take the time to work the slow setting putty well into the existing crack.
As well, you probably don't want the repair to show any more than it has to.

Silli I think I would have to make the crack a bit bigger as in some places it is so narrow that I don't think the putty will actually really fill the crack and I don't want it to be a huge lump on the side as I would like to use the other filler that is white to cover it up after the putty has dried. I am also going to have a word with the pool guys here as the one guy at work mentioned they actually have some type of stuff to do this and it is white. It is that stuff they put between the chipped tiles once they have them all done

That's probably the smartest thing to do - ask somebody who should know.

That is the way to go. If it is white and made for pools, you will be better off.

Well I had a word with the pool people and they suggested that I do it the way I am going to do it, so its a go if the weather plays along this weekend.
