Hello there,

The timing is out on my T140v Bonneville and I'm wondering if fitting an electronic ignition system will cure timing problems.
If an electronic system is fitted does that dispense with having to adjust timing occasionally or does it have to be coordinated in the same way as with a standard contact breaker?

Also what's the best electronic system for a T140v. I had a Rita on a previous Bonny and that was pretty good. Probably old fashioned now. Are the Boyer Bransdens good?

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Magno

Welcome.

An electronic ignition will retain it's setting, once timed, indefinitely. It would have to be physically/mechanically disturbed to "lose" the timing. (loose rotor screw, loose stator bolts, etc.)

Take your pick on the brand, they all have their good points, and apparently all are susceptible to failure; although some are more robust and have better records, like the Tri-Spark.

I have been using Sparx almost exclusively for 10 years (40+ bikes) with only 3 failures.

The latest Boyer boxes are good. It took me many years to come to the realization that the reason I had seen so many failed Boyer units was due to the sheer number of them being in the marketplace, as they were the only game in town for MANY years.
