Well today the Christmas fruit cake was baked. We have not done one like this in years and I can hardly wait to cut it. Need to got and get some Brandy tomorrow to start pouring over it so it is all done by Christmas day :y2:

Before you pour that Brandy stuff on it be sure and have a glass or three yourself to test it, you would hate to ruin the cake by pouring bad Brandy on it. :y2: Be sure and repeat the testing every time you get ready to pour any over it. I guess Brandy is good to drink but in case it ain't, Bourbon is good on fruit cakes too and the testing goes really well. DAMHIKT :y79:

Now that is a great tip :y2:

It's from my old tournament fishing days, we discovered on a couple of the area lakes the fish had a tendency to like Lone Star Beer but Lone Star had a tendency to go bad when the can or bottle was opened. So to keep from poisoning the fish we had to test the Lone Star before dipping our lures in it to make sure it was safe to let the fish taste it. I sure was glad when we found some lakes where the fish were more refined and preferred better drinks. But one word of caution, if you use this method for fishing . . . Be Sure And Remove The Lure From The Drink Prior To Testing.

So far just the ingredients cost of this is around R250 SA without the electricity (3 hours) and the brandy. So now I can see why the shops charge what they do for the small ones.

Looks totally perfectly divine Dave! Like Otherwise, I soak the fruit for a day or two so thanks for your tip on boiling in sherry! My sister makes my cake for me :-) Pays to be the 'baby' in the family sometimes!
