D&D -vs- Staintunes

When I first bought my Trophy I hated only one thing about it....the hairdryer sound of the stock silencers.

So shortly thereafter, I installed a set of carbon fiber D&D cans.

After riding for years with those, I began to think that maybe it was too loud and bought a set of stainless steel Staintunes. They aren't REAL quiet, but they are definitely way quieter than the D&Ds.

Well, I've grown tired again of the bike not sounding "mean" enough so I put the D&Ds back on. Now the bike sounds exactly like a Formula One car back in the days of when they were all running the Ford Cosworth DFV V-8. Let me tell you it freakin HOWLS! Enough so that it'll loosen the fillings in your teeth...literally.

I'm now not sure if I want to be THAT loud. It certainly turns heads and I see children covering their ears when I blast by them :wink:

That is a little on the sound side for me. :y114: The stock pipes on my 68 and the 60's pipes on my 03 are just right for me.

Yeah but it's a very moving experience to hear this thing at full song. I even had a squid kid on some Honda sportbike sitting next to me at Bike Nite comment that "them D&Ds sound SWEEEEEET!".

It's got a nice snarl and it racks-off like nobody's business when I roll off the throttle.

I can't comment on the D&D's on your Trophy, but the D&D's I had on my Thruxton were annoyingly too loud. I have since read that the reverse cone models can be repacked, and that goes a long way in toning them down a bit. They did seem to enhance the performance more than any other pipe I have tried. I just didn't like the looks I was getting from the small town cops when I would roll into their speed traps on deceleration. Kinda gave me a not-peaceful, uneasy feeling.

You know then what I'm talking about...LOL!

But I figure the cops can't do anything legally considering they allow many Harleys to cruise around in some cases running straight pipes.

I know exactly what you mean.

At least locally speaking, I'm not too worried about the cops. They all know me personally and I've gone on their fundraising charity rides for the K-9 Corp. Once you've gone on one of those fundraising rides with the cops, you definitely have an "in" with them.

Since I believe I have the ONLY Trophy within 200 miles, I'm not hard to spot.

Ditto. I knew all of the LEO's back in Flagler County as was in with them. They used our preserve for training and I supported those exercises.

Wouldn't you know it!

I just got done saying that and while on my way to visit my Mum in the hospital, about 5 miles from my house I see a bike coming at me that really caught my eye. Low and behold it was a silver Trophy 1200 !!!!
