I am having a problem getting my clutch cable adjusted correctly after putting the bike back together. I understand how to adjust the clutch with the clutch adjusting screw and nut on the primary case side. When I took her all the way down, I loosened the cable adjustment where it screws into the housing above the clutch lever, and also loosened the adjuster at the handle so I could have enough slack to get the end of the cable out of the clutch lever. (sorry if I am not using the right technical terms)

Now I am having a devil of a time getting it back right. It seems that the clutch cable is too long (cant be cause it is the same one) To get the cable tight enough so that the adjuster at the handle bar is not at it slackest point, I have to screw out the lower adjuster out to it's furthest point. But now the clutch lever is at its highest point as I look at it through the access hole.

I am sure I am missing something easy and obvious here.

can someone help?

thanks

I'm having trouble understanding your scenario exactly or I'd be glad to help.

Basically, hook it to the handlebar clutch lever. Feed the cable along the frame under the tank. Then feed that end into the top of the gearbox case. With the access plug removed, hook the ball end under the fork. Now adjust both ends of the cable equally until you have about 1/8 - 1/4 inches of free play in the handlebar lever before you feel resistance.

Sounds like you might have pulled the balls out of thier ramp sockets and the lower adjuster is jammed there.

Back off of the center adjuster on the hub as far as possible, then stick a screwdriver in the tranny cover inspection hole and pop the ball/ramp lever back down into it's proper position. Once it's back in place with the cable loose, adjust the center screw to it's "touch-down" point, then back it off 1/4 turn. Lastly, re-adjust the cable.

, To quote Bugs Bunny,,,,,,,"what a moroon". I went back to the beginning, opened the clutch adjustment port on the left side and the locking nut had come lose so the clutch had no tension.......got it adjusted, then the clutch cable adjusted without a problem.

Thanks GrandPaul
