I would definitely like to visit SA. But, alas, it is not in the cards right now.

All the guys over the pond - the door is always open :-) Besides, any excuse to get into the bush we take without hesitation. So get your khakis, bring your helmets and come on over. Farside and I are going to the Kruger National Park for a few days in December - small game lodge way up north - leopard country :-)

PS: We're having a heatwave in Joburg but it's SNOWING in the Western Cape and bucketing down where DaveM is. See why I just love Jozi!!!

Yesterday I found myself having to go to the far South Western and South Eastern sides of the Joburg CBD - WHAT A SHOCK!!! It was like being in another country, Lagos Nigeria to be specific. The filth, the dereliction of old beautiful sandstone buildings, the street vendors, the filth, the litter, the cheap chinese shops, the filth. I was in total shock. Clearly the clean-up of the Joburg CBD has not even come close to the areas I was in. Then I had to travel to the far Eastern part of Gauteng (province that Joburg's in). As I travelled out of the CBD eastbound, I crossed over a main thoroughfare intersection into a residential area - the intersection demarks the suburbs run by the Joburg Municipal Council and the "Bedford View" municipal council. Now the Joburg municipality is run by the ANC - they won the by-election. Bedford View is run by the DA - won in the same by-election. Once I crossed the great divide, it was again like being in a different in a country. Although not an affluent residential area by any means, it was spotless. No litter anywhere, verges properly grassed and maintained, roads in excellent condition, trees lining the streets and centre road islands. What a total contrast - what a total shock! I just wish I'd had a decent camera with me at the time.

Yes it is amazing how the difference can jump out at you. Same this side as you go from the Eastern Cape (ANC) to the Western Cape (DA), funny how we can notice it but they cannot BGRIN

I remember I could walk around here alone anytime of the day and night without any fear at all
