Here is a pic of the instruments from my 61 5TA project. I have not confirmed that they are proper yet, but hope this helps you in some way. I can take any other pics you need, since bike is apart. Just let me know.instruments.jpg

Ok here are some close ups of my nacelle. Appreciate your comments, i know ammeter, speedo and warning light are wrong. According to the parts book the choke lever and levers are not standard but i have seen others with the same set up...

Looks like the handle bars are raked back and they had a choice to trim the nacelle on both sides or once in the middle. Just a guess!!
Maybe a previous owner had short arms and changed, bent or replaced the bar with the wrong one?

Re: 3TA Centre stand, speedo and general advice required please - recommissioning pro

u got a very wrong handle and i think its the main reason. i can see in the pic that it is more towards left from the holes in nacelle.......and somebody done 2+ wrongs to make it right

Re: 3TA Centre stand, speedo and general advice required please - recommissioning pro

Measured my handlebars - without removing the grips and they are approximately 27 1/2" wide.

Apparently a previous owner fitted forks from something else and it sat too high and the guy I bought the bike from replaced them with the correct type but chromed versions. Maybe this has something to do with why the hole was enlarged.... I guess it will remain a mystery until I delve further into the bike perhaps over the winter months.

Ok Speedometer returned and money back.

I spoke with another refurbisher who wanted to provide me with a Smiths SC3304/11 but interestingly not the 1692 ratio. I think his book said S467/227/N but I cannot be certain so don't take my word on that. I do remember that he said the 1692 was not for the 16 inch wheel model. Now I am totally confused. HELP!!!!!

As these things cost an absolute fortune I really want to get it right this time! Does anyone have either access to the smiths books and could look up the info or upload the relevant page so I can see why he is telling me my 1961 3TA should have this other ratio drive?

I am so close to getting this bike back on the road - I just need to get a speedo and an MOT, so frustrating and want to do it this week if possible!

sc3304/11 1692 is for 17 inch wheel and 3ta is 17 inch so its perfect by book

Re: 3TA Centre stand, speedo and general advice required please - recommissioning pro

Sorry I meant 17 where I typed 16 in my previous message. The guy I spoke with quoted the 227N as being the correct ratio for the 17 inch wheels......

Mystery solved. Found parts book 3 and yes if my machine was before engine 18612 then the S467/227N 1700 would be correct but as it's in the 19,000's then mine should have the same SC3304/11 1692 as yours Kashif. Phew, one more job off the list as I have also spoken with the speedo man and about to put my cheque in the post. Second time lucky!

New centre stand has been fitted and looks great, not sure how often it will get used as I don't have the knack yet on how to get the bike up on to it...
