I purchased an adjustment tool from a bloke on other forum its been a few years since purchase and a couple relocation's......if I can find it this weekend I will let you know but I think they still offer them over there at that "other forum".

I may have posted here as well about the custom adjustment tool....but ---- I cant find it--- we have had a forum change over or two since then.......

Rock on. I thought, worst case, that I could weld up my own tool. I assume it's similar to what the old Kawasaki tool did for the KZ line up in the 70's and 80's. I did read someone made their own and provided specs, might have to dig that up again if you can't find yours :)

Well, approximately 1000 miles ridden on 2 cylinders. so I'm quite impressed it doesn't look WORSE!!!
Will pull the valves out and fix/lap the valves and seats as necessary. I'm assuming the seats are nicked and that's why I'm still getting 160psi, but not the full 180-190 the other two are getting.

OK, cylinder 3 looks to have maybe slapped around a little. Scratched up the cylinder wall and that's likely what is causing my slightly lower compression. As well as the valves need a good lapping as well. They aren't the prettiest of seats on the exhaust side!

So far I have the 3rd sleeve out. There was some porcelain clogging up the top ring so it was a little "sticky" cleaned it all out and it moves freely as it's supposed to. ZERO scuffing on the piston itself. So the scratches in the cylinder wall must have just been from porcelain "sanding" it down a little. I think with a good hone, and valve lapping there shouldn't be any reason she won't come back up in the 180psi range again. It was drivable as-was but I had to get this sorted out and to make a log for others if they need help doing this in the future. I have more pics and kind of a "guide" from following the manual with pictures of my own.

I can tell you from experience ---I opened the engine cases on a 98 Sprint 885. I bought it as a "basket case" with a blown Sprag CLutch AND 98,000 plus ORIGINAL miles on the Odometer........yes that is not a typo ................

I expected that I was going to be in for a TOTAL rebuild.......I was AMAZED at how CLEAN and un damaged the interior of the engine was .....the whole thing looked----well---NEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The engineering of these engines is just amazing. ALl I had to do was replace the Sprag Clutch and put new gaskets and button her back up. :)

Good luck and I look forward to seeing the pics.

Excellent! Yeah, I think I got very lucky with this one. New gaskets are already on their way. I've got to button it up, check the valves (since checking before I lap them wouldn't help me) and then order up any shims that might be necessary. I feel a little better about pulling the sleeves. I need to find that proper sealant they call out though...
