I currently have the Triumph saddlebags on my 07 T100 but they are way too small for a weekend trip much less a longer one. Since I already have side brackets in place does anyone have suggestions as to best type of hard bags to replace them? Suggestions? thanks.

Yes I know how you feel I went out and purchased them for the Speedmaster and had then on for one day and that was it. I then went out and purchased a Venture kit and have never looked back the best money I have spent on the bike Ventura for Triumph
This is the system I use on my H***a as you may have noticed in the pics of my trip to Newfoundland.
For the Bonneville I use the Triumph side brackets and chose medium size Tourmaster cruiser slant bags. They are not leather but of a hard synthetic material that holds its shape and doesn't sag. They zip on and off quickly
They come in medium (1296 cubic inch capacity), large (1620 cubic inch capacity) and extra-large (2160 cubic inch capacity) sizes.
Rain covers are included.

I agree with the throw over soft bags. Easy to use and easy to take off.

In place of a top bag, I use two dry bags (duffel bags) and strap them on behind me. They work well and keep things very dry. And I have traveled through some hard rain using the dry bags.

I am thinking about getting the Kriega 20 and some 10s and using their system: http://www.aerostich.com/kriega-us-20-tail-bag.html

But like many, I keep searching and searching trying to figure out what will be the best buy and fit for me. Trying to find the one best system--that is, something that I can use for both local travel and long trips and not have to have a few of both.

I should say that right now I use a backpack, a Rapid Transit 19 tank bag, and some old duffel-type bags that I strap on. Nothing water proof, just pack garbage bags, ponchos, etc to wrap them in. I want to get either the Kriegas or Ortlieb--something that sells dry bags.

I've been using magnetic tank bags for many years with no damage to the paint.
But it is important to keep the tank clean as well as the bottom of the bag.
Magnets can pick up metal foreign objects and dirt so you need to watch for that.

i have always used a magnetic tank bag with no problems at all with paint damage, as rocky says just keep the two surfaces clean and you'll have no trouble.
and there are some really good ones on the market ! mine unzips into 4 differant parts and is a ruck sack as well .

This sounds like a handy one to have TUP

Tankbag technology has come a long way and have many features these days.
Most come with a rain cover and a strap so you can throw it over your shoulder.
Others can be worn as a ruck sach as was stated.

A couple of years ago I was on a weekend trip with the magnetic tankbag in place, but I didn't bother to attach the tether that comes with it.
I met a speeding 18-wheeler on a narrow road and the blast of air picked up the tankbag and almost threw it off the bike. I was able to grab it just in time.
I always use the tether now :y2:

Like Dave, I have never used a tank bag; but I am considering one for the Tiger.

Chad, I use two dry bags that I bought and use for kayaking. These are waterproof duffel bags and they are really waterproof. I have a large one and a medium one. On the Bonnie, I strap them on the pillion seat crosswise using two tie down straps and two cargo nets hooked together. On the Tiger, I put them on the pillion seat and rack length wise. I just use the cargo nets to secure them.

Thanks, Shane; I would like to see what you have.

Chad, here is a photo of my dry bags strapped to my Bonnie T100. I did a 600 + mile trip one way in one day with this set up. And I hit some torrential rain.
