Both dealers workshops said the same...almost word for word MMMMmmmmmDid you get any feedback?
I think a lot of these bikes were sold with this noise, but it seems not many complain or hear this rattle. I'm guessing that only the owners that are recognising strange engine noises are more aware of what an engine should sound like. My T120 was worse but it was sold on by the dealer. Both dealers workshops said the same...almost word for word MMMMmmmmm
The factory tech woman said she could no hear it....
I dropped the bike off at the dealer the day before so she could start it cold.....had to take the bike on my trailer....quite an effort.....for nothing.....that was very frustrating.....felt I had to drag a bit of feed back from triumph from her.
All very unsatisfactory......you cant miss the noise....if? you want to hear it.
My latest suspicion for the noise.....the valve rocker arm shafts.
I checked my valve clearances....I found the rocker shafts are free to slide back and forth a tiny amount....for expansion I suppose.....but when I push those shafts back and to....the tap they make on contacting the alloy part of the cylinder head sounds just like the tap I hear on cold start.
Being part of the alloy cylinder head it will heat up quicker than most of the engine....taking up that free play.
I suspect the noise goes due heat expansion with something.
There are 4 of those shafts on the top of the cylinder head.
What do you think.
Judging what's been noted on other forums, if the valve gaps are at the maximum clearance, when they are reduced to the tightest clearance seems to help the tapping noise. So in conjunction what you found, it's the play in the collarsI think a lot of these bikes were sold with this noise, but it seems not many complain or hear this rattle. My concern is after the warranty runs out, your on your own! And if it got worse, who's going to pay for a rebuild?
Trouble is most are limited to mileage on the insurance so not many will have many miles on them.
Its olny a theory....but a bike tuning guy down the road from me told me to bring my bike down cold....put his stethoscope on.....he could hear it right away....said not sure...as he doesn't work on Triumphs.....but confirmed in from the top of the engine.Judging what's been noted on other forums, if the valve gaps are at the maximum clearance, when they are reduced to the tightest clearance seems to help the tapping noise. Like wise....as you say.....and I know this for a fact....lots of other owners bikes are effected....they either are deaf.....dont notice it.....or are not savvy on mechanicals.Mine has another year and a half to go.
Im in the very south of UK.
But suspicious about triumph honoring outside the warranty, how long can you go on for until something develops with the engine hot. I'm convinced there's a problem and they are ignoring it.
Thought it did the other day....not sure now....not much in it....but sounds less metallic.not a huge amount....SAE 30 grade may have done...why is it it appears after the first oil changeDoes it go away quicker when warmed up?
Not to triumph direct but through a dealer.Thought it did the other day....not sure now....not much in it....but sounds less metallic.not a huge amount....SAE 30 grade may have done...why is it it appears after the first oil change
Have you have discussion's with Triumph UK direct...thats what I ended up doing...guy named Pete I think.
If so did they take much arm twisting to get the to collect it....were is it going to.
Nick.
I was working through after care at Triumph UK....very good...send an email....always get back same day....I gave the the vin number and asked them to log the fault which they did.Not to triumph direct but through a dealer.
They are a long way from me so will have to be collected. Haven't heard much else which has been a month ago. Messaged the director but still no response.
Mmmm would have to be an awful lot worse to tempt me.And now the steering lock cap has stayed up and will not click down, second one so far.!
I think for the little niggles this bike has, might be better to go jap.
Would not surprise me.The cap has to be a full replacement along with main body.
Im sure the last time it was fixed, they replaced it with one that had failed on another bike as I saw the item in the warranty box. Then it was missing. I tried 5 other bikes in another shop closer to home and they were a lot stiffer. Its a shame the cap doesn't spring down instead of up. Nonce designers.
Interesting....one of the young mechanics at the dealer said to me it could be an injector tap....and that it can varies from bike to bike.Right, dealer in Kent wants a more local to me dealer to look at the bike.
So I'm going to take it to the Dorset shop.
The cover that covers the steering lock was a used replacement which was a warranty part insomuch as it was removed from another bike and was the only one available as they didn't order a replacement from triumph uk.
The noise I'm hearing may be a solinoid in the injector. But I have to apply my stethoscope to pinpoint it.
The sound does resinate from that area.
So will you leave it overnight so it gets a proper cold start the next day?Right, dealer in Kent wants a more local to me dealer to look at the bike.

Thats what I had to do
