I put a deposit on a 99 T bird Saturday sight unseen with plans to drive to the dealer Monday. I get a call early Monday from the dealer saying it's gonna take some TLC to get it right before I come get it. He said it just doesn't run right now but will call when it's ready to go. I have been thru 2 almost buys with Thunderbirds previously, I'm hoping this will be a finally got it thing.

I kinda bought mine that way. It’d been brought in to the local shop. Been sitting a year or so. Needed carbs cleaned and new battery to run. I’ve updated service since. It was a ‘99 with 10,400 miles. Really like it…..

Did they give any explanation of what TLC entails? A carb cleaning could be part of it. If it is ignition related, many people on here have commented on the poor performance of the stock ignition coils. After chasing down an intermittent ignition problem myself, I ultimately found that it was the igniter and not the ignition coils at fault. Hopefully, the dealer will have a clue. If you need any help, I’ve gotten a real comeuppance in knowledge of the ‘99 Legend TT I refurbished for my son.

They are pretty strong bikes, my only caustion is the starter sprag clutch can fail especially if staring is repeatedly attempted with a weak battery and it's a bitch to replace. As part of your TLC, make sure all your starter circuit cables are well cleaned and connected and always keep the battery in good order.

Finally have my first Triumph, rode it home this afternoon. It promptly puked antifreeze on the floor after I took theese pics. It looks so bad at first I thought it was oil.
