Well, I've had the bike now for about 3 weeks and I can honestly state, unequivocally that I own my dream bike. The power, torque, fly by wire, real cruise control, dis- engageable ABS and traction control are all things of beauty.
So, my question are, does this bike have an Achilles heal. Such as the doohickey on the KLR 650 and does the XC have self adjusting valves?
ill be changing the oil and filter myself every 5000 as that is what the dealer recommended. On my KLR 650 With 27,000, I changed the oil every 1500 and oil and filter every 3000 miles, but being the XC runs on 100% synthetic the mech stated that the oil hasn't even begun to break down at 3000 miles, let alone 1500.

What are your thoughts.

on another note, I was pulled over today on the Ortega this morning doing 20 over the posted limit. The MC cop was nice enough to only give me a ticket for wearing both my earbuds instead of the moving violation. Nice guy, just doing his job, meeting his quota before the end of the month. No points on my record, no report to the insurance company.
He thanked me for pulling over before he even had a chance to turning on his light as he would not have like to have had to chase me (his words). He was riding a BMW 1200 cruiser of some kind. I told him that running from the cops is not in my bag of tricks.
Like I said he was a great guy. Good sense of humor and liked the XC.
Please refer to my original question and tell me what you think.
Thanks
chris

Strange I would have not thought that they would have given a ticket for something like this as I always thought of this being a safety device. Nice of him not to give you a ticket on the speeding though

I change the oil and filter in my 800XC and my Bonneville every 5000 miles. I, too, run fully synthetic. The owner's manual calls for a 6000 mile interval on the Bonneville. I think it is the same for the XC.

Thanks Carls, I'll do the same. Yes. The 1200 XC is a blast to ride. Planning on a CA-VA-CA trip in the Spring. Wish that hard cases weren't so pricy.

My Tiger has gotten me out of a couple tickets as well, spent more time talking to the LEO about the Tiger than about the reason why I was being pulled over.....both times netted a warning only. :y2:
If you have a friend who can (or if you can) do some welding of a bracket system, I have seen these used as ---shall we say "affordable" side bags and top trunk combos.

Ah a Super T. I had the ammo cans on my KLR 650. They were a bit heavy, but I'm now on a 1200 so it shouldn't be a problem. I'll have to give that some more thought. The OD Green will match nicely with the XC's matte green scheme.
Thanks for sharing.

Reminded me of this oldie but goody

A 75 year old senior citizen bought a brand new Ducati Diavel and drove it out of the salesroom, with the salesman shaking his head at what he just let happen. Taking off down the motorway, he opened the throttle and was soon doing 120mph, he was revelling this new experience. â€Amazing!" he thought as he flew down the road, enjoying pushing the bike more and more. Looking in his mirror, he saw a police car behind him, blue lights flashing and siren blaring. "I can get away from him - no problem!" thought the elderly nutcase as he opened it up to 140mph, then 150 then 160. Suddenly, he thought, "What on earth am I doing? I'm too old for this nonsense!" So he pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police car to catch up with him. Pulling in behind him, the police officer walked up to the now distraught man, looked at his watch and said, â€Sir, my shift ends in 10 minutes. Today is Friday and I'm taking off for the weekend. If you can give me a reason why you were speeding that I've never heard before, I'll let you go." The old man, looked very seriously at the policeman and replied, "Years ago my wife ran off with a policeman. I thought you were bringing her back." "Have a good day, Sir", said the policeman.
