When I was a teenager in the 1950's I didn't wear a helmet and no one did. There was no helmet law back in those days.
When I came back to bikes in 1992 there was a helmet law (plus I was a lot smarter) so I bought a full face helmet (law or no law).
When I started riding vintage bikes I wore an open face and goggles because it looked cool and was more in keeping with the era of the bikes.
But after a few years of being hit in the face with large bugs, bees and other small debris, I gave them up.

I agree with you Dale in that it is your decision to wear or not wear whatever you want. To be honest I didn't post this to really be a push for full face helmets just as a freak accident. Sure she could have saved a few teeth but what would have happened if she had been wearing a full face helmet? Would it have been less forgiving than her teeth and caused her to go down and suffer other injuries? Who knows, I just thought it was a freak accident that could happen to me since I live in a country club community and I've seen how bad some of the goofers are around here.

As previously stated I have worn both and none at all (helmets that is---minds out of the gutter) I see the ups and downs to both.
We all make choices, and thank goodness we have so many helmet, bike, jacket, tire etc etc etc choices to choose from for ever individual. The key is only that we ride and enjoy the ride in what ever form makes us happy, comfortable and confident.

And STAY FAR AWAY FROM GOLF COURSES those places will KILL you!:y2:

An errant golf ball from the 14th hole on Murfreesboro’s Indian Hills Golf Course knocked a motorcyclist’s teeth out as she and her husband rode blissfully along South Church Street.-

A man teeing off at the 14th over the weekend hooked his shot, watched the ball disappear and then heard screams, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department incident report. He followed the scream to find a woman clutching her bloody mouth.
Her husband told police that they were riding their motorcycles when he saw the ball bounce across the road and near her motorcycle. There, it careened into her face. She was able to avoid wrecking her bike, but the ball knocked out “several†teeth, the report said. She was taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.
An officer scoured the area for the offending golf ball and found multiple potential culprits, but, alas, he wrote, “none of which had blood on them.â€

. :y2:

Would it be right to say that the rider was truly gobsmacked then??

I am in the full face helmet camp. My full face saved me plastic surgery in my get off three or four years ago. I do ride with the visor up a lot; but I wear eye protection when I do. That said I support everyone's right to wear whatever helmet they choose or no helmet at all.
