UK woman attacked by tame cheetah in Port Elizabeth…husband filmed it

UK woman attacked by tame cheetah in Port Elizabeth…husband filmed it [pics]

A UK husband and wife is scratching (see what i did there..sigh, yes i know its lame) Port Elizabeth off their must-go-back list after a visit to the Kragga Kamma reserve turned into a nightmare when a tame cheetah knocked the woman to the ground and gouged her head. Her husband filmed the entire ordeal. Way to go help your woman out there buddy.

Violet D’Mello said she was told the cheetahs were completely tame and while she was in the enclosure with another family, one of the big cats grabbed a 7yr old. When Violet tried to protect one of the other children the cheetah grabbed her and the incident was captured on camera.

I’ve been to the cheetah enclosure at Spier and let me tell you, they are not small.

“As their guide frantically tried to pull the large cat from Violet, she reacted in the safest way she knew – by playing dead while her husband was filming the entire ordeal.

“Something inside me just said, ‘Don’t move. Don’t move at all – don’t react, just play dead’.â€

When the guide pulled the first cat off, its brother joined the fray, biting Violet’s legs and keeping her on the ground. The group struggled to get both cats off at once, but after a few minutes, she managed to make a run for the gate.

“This was meant to be a holiday, but it’s really turned into a nightmare,†Violet said.†[TimesLIVE]

At least she’s ok though.

It says her husband filmed the entire ordeal and I tried to find the footage, but i won’t be surprised if he’s shopping it around to the UK tabloids.

THAT is scary! Going for the head? That's a cheetah's kill move - they suffocate their prey to death. Can't believe she's pretty much OK but what a chicken-prat her husband is! I'd divorce the .............

I've been into cages with the big cats - lion, leopard, cheetah and I'm fully aware of the risks and take that on board. I've done this at sanctuaries and I know the risk I'm taking, but you also learn how to behave when in an enclosure with a big cat. Rule No 1 - do not turn your back on the cat, Rule No 2 - make yourself "bigger" than the cat, Rule No 3 - make sure the warden has a loaded rifle!

good to see he's got his priorities right.:y13:

That's right, no pictures. . . It didn't happen. :y2:

Rule #6. If the above rules don't work, be sure you are faster than the idiot beside you.

Didn't we also see this last year with another couple from England or maybe Ireland?

Maybe we just need to require warning labels posted on the side of big cats, that would prevent this from happening again. :y2:

Or maybe this is true. . .
