A mechanic who can diagnose - outside of a computer - is a rarity.
you can say that again ! there all computer tec's not mechanics , and its mad as stuff like bearings and seals are so much cheaper now ,that you could repair parts cheaply .
i used to repair my water pumps and parts like that ,at a fraction of the price of a new one !

I agree with that to a degree.

The problem with my Jaguar seems not to be that of any mechanical part being in need of repair or replacement, but of something electrical that controls the mechanical parts.

Personally, I'm guessing it's a short or a bad ground that is affected by moisture.

One of my bike buddies has a Mini Cooper that he thought was the car of the devil.
For no reason whatever, and at any time of the day or night, it would suddenly come to life by blowing the horn, blinking the lights and the electric windows would go up and down. This happened maybe once or twice a month, suddenly stop for weeks, and then do it again.
It took a lot of looking by the BMW service department, but it was finally determined that water was following the wire from the outside Sirius radio antennae down into the dashboard and making connections that activated systems.
Once that was fixed the car is it's wonderful self again:y2:

LOL.....sounds like it was tripping parts of the alarm system and/or the locking system.

I know on the MINI Cooper you can choose many options what the car will do when you press the lock button on the remote...like activate the alarm and close the windows and sunroof.

I have to say my 2002 MINI Cooper has been flawless and I have over 100,000 miles on it now.

it sounds more like a left over prop from the excorsist :y2:

Well, the Leeping Kitty is back home again.....we'll see how long it lasts this time :y9:

They said that they realized they hadn't re-flashed the Main Computer and the Transmission Control Computer after the new transmission was installed so it wasn't "agreeing".

I supposedly have all the latest software updates onboard it now. They kept it this whole week and tried to drown in with water, putting 175 miles on it in the process without any fault.

My Wife says it has a noticeable difference in power, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Uh...NO!

They still maintain that it did need the transmission replaced.

Personally, I think the replacement of the transmission was only needed because they didn't fix the electrical problem in the first place and lead to the transmission going bad.
