Well for us it has always been the law to ride with one but even when I have been off public roads I would never ride with out one. Even when I ride my bike from the shed to our front yard it feels strange not having one on

It's the law here too so it's not a matter of choice on the street. Regardless of any law, I wouldn't ride without a helmet now like I did as a kid in the 50's.
I don't ride off-road or ride dirt bikes so that's not a consideration anyway.
Like Dave, in the spring when I ride my bikes from the rear of my house up the grassy alleyway out to the street and down the short driveway into my garage for the summer, I generally don't wear a helmet and it feels strange.

I've never ridden off road without a helmet. On road is a different story, I rode for a few years without one. I would only wear one in the rain. But that was when I was dumb and bulletproof. Now I'm no longer bulletproof so I never ride without one.

I do not agree with helmet laws and I've been known to be outspoken against them. I just do not believe it should be up to a bunch of non-riding suits of hot air as to whether I wear a helmet or not. Even with my stand against helmet laws, I think you're stupid not to wear one.

It's the law here too ! But I am guilty of often riding my bikes from the shed through the yard to the house without one on , but on the road I've never rode with out .

No I don't think I would ride without a helmet.
My head is not my most prized asset :sneaky: ( according to my husband)
But I do have brains you knowWINK

I have ridden a short mass ride without a helmet and it felt like I was naked
Offroad !!!! No Helmet No Ride

I almost never wear one here on our private drive (about 1/4 mile total). Very infrequently I'll cruise 1/2 mile to the auto parts store without crossing any arterial roads (stop signs at every intersection) without a helmet, or to 1 or 2 friends houses under the same circumstances. It's been a few years since I crossed town without a helmet; no more.

You've left yourself wide open for some smart arse Limey to comment on the above. But I won't be doing that of course.

I rode in Sturgis back in 2000 without a skid lid on, I didn't feel that comfortable without something on my bonce. I'd never ride over here without one, a bit too much of a risk I think. But I agree with Hemi's comments about non riding suits making laws for us, some of these people haven't got any idea of what it means to ride a bike.

Have to agree about the helmet laws. Well said. I personally never ride without a helmet. Twice a year, early spring and then before winter, my bikes are moved from my storage garage, up our alley two houses and around to my main garage, sometimes without a helmet. This little trip is literally about one hundred yards at about five to ten mph. When I first started riding nearly forty years ago I rode a couple of times to a gas station about a half a mile down our residential street with a 25 mph speed limit, even that felt foreign to me. I have worn a full face helmet for the last thirty years since an acquaintance of mine struck a deer while riding his Harley Davidson full dresser in a funeral procession for a fellow biker. The impact bent his forks back and he and his bike did a complete end over end. He actually ended up back on his wheels! With is forks pushed back he couldn't maintain control to bring it to a stop. He and ended up sliding down the road head first face down. His Fred Flintstone turtle shell type helmet did him little to no good. If you would see how he ground down his facial features you would understand why I only ride with a full face helmet. I have been tempted to get an open face helmet and goggles for riding my T100 but just can't bring myself to do it. I know the odds of that kind of injury are very very low and someday I may have that old school helmet and goggles but I'll never be without a lid.
