I thought that was a stunning stat too.I am not going to say how i did, i was really fascinated by some of these questions, the main one was the 170 planes per day that were lost.
Very true, many would have hit the silk and lived to fight another day if they weren't captured by the enemy.If you consider the Pacific war, the European war and the Eastern front, all together, that 170 makes more sense, though it is still a stunning number, and it can be understood that the number doesn't necessarily equate to pilots lost.
