Freeway was at a standstill this morning. My choices: stand still or use the left emergency lane. I choose the later and was ready to pay for a ticket.
What would you have done?

I would have very cautiously tried the emergency lane. The problem with using the emergency lane, aside for the danger from other vehicles, is the debris that can easily puncture a tire.

I would have just ridden up the middle of all the traffic, then we allowed to do it here.

You know something safe like this :y10:

Carl, I drove very slowly, 2nd gear. As you said, a lot of debris.
I was also worried about my Bonnie overheating. Is this an issue?

You should not have an issue with it overheating unless it was also an exceptionally hot day. I would estimate you should have been going around 30kmh in second gear (not sure what that would be in Mph)

Sent from my fruit because I can

If it were 90 F plus and it took you 30 minutes or more to creep along, heat might be an issue. But a short time is no different than riding in heavy traffic and waiting at traffic lights.

I've seen cars if you lane split in the middle, closing the gap on purpose because they get pissed at you. Emergency lane seems to be "safer".

Oh and btw, drivers yelled at me this morning too. Maybe jealous? :-)

It is the law here in PA that a motorcycle must observe the same lanes as any other motor vehicle.

Around Pittsburgh, they wouldn't have just yelled at you......if you survived the hail of bullets, some yahoo in a pick-up truck would swing his door open and knock you down, and then probably run over your miserable carcass.

Also here in Italy is not legal to drive on the emergency lane... when I found myself in that situation, i ride between the still cars, very slowly, of course ;)

LOL That is just about what would happen around here, too. BGRIN

Over here you can lane split in a safe manner.
If you did it at speed you would probably get pulled over.
We are also allowed to use bus lanes on motorways in most urban areas.
Over here, the majority of motorists will actually move if they can,to let you through, but then we are more courteous than gun toting over here.:y2:
