This is a buit worriesome. I was looking at the weather on ABC7 and theres a video for that new Dr Oz show and if you just hold your mouse over it ti will play. It is a teaser for today's show about arseic in food and apparently they did a study and a lot of our food was found to have it. i can't watch the show because i get home right when it's over. But maybe someone here can watch it an see what they find. one of the things mentioned is apple juice, something i drink a lot of. so this worries me some. the video is just below and to the right of the forecast

Well at your age you should be drinking prune juice anyway :y24: :y24:

These guys are always coming up with some angle with this will kill you or that will kill you so I never take much note of it really

i found a series of videos on his site about toxic zones in your house. Now i'm so paranoid i may kill myself ! :y2: seriously tho, they do make me worry...especially the one about basements having huge degree of carcinogenic radon gas. I live in a studio made from a basement ! Kinda worries me, as they said the amounts are serious. I've been seriously looking to buy a house, but those in my range are very hard to find. Almost feel like moving out into an apt right now. :y13:

Radon is something to be concerned about. It can have serious consequences.

yeah. i think i may have to read up on solutions, even if partial ones till i can find a house. I may even have to settle, which i really don't want to do. But i won't get out of this place anytime soon if i don't.

i saw a U.S. map that shows it heavy in so cal tho. i was just reading about it ans shortness of breath is a symptom of radon, something i have noticed on and off since i've lived there. Nice...just what i need.

Radon mostly concentrates in basements with cracks in the cement floor. When you get it sealed, that's normally what it entails. I didn't think many homes in Florida had basements.

I actually have areas like in the A/C closet where there IS no flooring, just dirt. then there are sliding doors into a crawl space where there is more dirt and no flooring of any kind. So if my area has a lot of radon i'm screwed.

They COULD. But you'd have to understand the people i'd have to count on to do this ! I gotta find a house anyways. Just gotta maybe speed up the process and settle for less than i'd hoped for, which isn't much. But then neither is my savings account.

i think till then i'm going to keep a window open with a fan it in every day whenever i'm home and leave the door open as much as possible. The place is tiny so that should do a lot. But when it gets cold ....well, hopefully i'll find a house by then. (not likely tho)

They don't. It rises into home through the openings in the slabs. Older homes built on piers instead of slabs, crawl space ventilation dissipated some of the radon. The older homes were not well sealed and there was no ac. The homes stayed well ventilated. Today's homes are sealed much tighter and windows are not opened. Radon can build up quickly.

thats what it's all about...houses trapping it inside. If you are outside on the bare earth there will be far more, but it has nothing to trap it and build up to serious levels. So i will just leave windows open and a fan blowing out often. that should be good enough till i find a house. Heck, i smoked for 40 years, and if that didn't kill me i suppose a little radon ain't gonna do it that fast !

Well this is what I was thinking and remember this is not something new it has always been around so you have been living with it for a very long time and so far your ok.
