i think the morgo kit is a good way to go. im still using the same rings as i put on 30 something years back, and the compression is 150/155 still. not all that high but good for the ton whenever i want it.
like rudie says, the morgo is a bolt-on. swap over the tappet guide blocks, install the pistons, rings, and head gasket, and youre done. obviously check clearances and ring gaps because theres always packing mistakes. i for the life of me cannot even remember whether the bores were honed from morgo or not.
in all the years morgo has been making these things, i have heard of only one issue with quality control.
if you install oversize valves you;; need to check the valve cutouts. i had 3/32-inch OS intakes in mine, larger than the current 0.060-OS i think is available from kibblewhite. but you can easily widen those out by hand.
the increased capacity benefits from port work and larger carbs. stock concentrics in my 72 were 930, 30mm, and i installed 32mm mikunis, now 34mm. megacycle 1000 street cams, stock cam timing. good bottom end, good midrange, and the porting keeps up with the 750cc just fine on top.
other people use the modern routt kits. i know a guy who has installed them, and he was pleased with the result.
that particular bike i have been modifying since i bought it at the age of 21. its not remotely stock anymore in any major system except the gearbox, but it does what i want it to do. i have other machines that are more original.
