Took the Daytona to Kyalami yesterday, for another "Michelin" track day, and the first real ride on this bike . Had a great day. One trip into kitty-litter caused by stupid use of rear brake whilst going too hot into a turn and panicking. Kept it upright. Managed to get my time down to 2' 11.98" by the end of the day. Body tired today, but it was worth it.

The bike is awesome!!

Sounds like you did really well although I have no clue what the track record there is.

What type of prep work has to be done before they allow a bike on the circuit? Around here, you have to run water/water wetter (no antifreeze) and drill the plugs for safety straps on them, etc.

Silli, if you're serious about track days you do get any schooling better than California Superbike School.
It IS expensive but afterwards you will realise that it is worth the money.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

...

Just had a look at their site. Only here 2 days this year. Have seen prices for other venues quoted in pounds sterling.:y13:

Ty for the tip. :y16:

AJ. The track record is over 30 secs faster than my time, which puts things into perspective. The previous owner's best time on this bike was around 2" 07", so I guess this is a good target.

Prep work is nothing special for these track days. The bike gets scrutineered for basic safety parameters, and sound tested to ensure it complies with the local limits. After that, away you go!
I was surprised that they do not insist on collector bottles.

I have taken off the non required bits for the track.... rear pegs/supports, numberplate/rear turn signals, mirrors and front turn signals. Not sure how much this affects performance, but it sure makes it look mean. :y2:

Yeah it's 108 max.

How do they test it now Silli? They used to rev it to 75% redline and hold it there, taking a reading 1 meter back.

That pisses me off no end, That track has been there for decades, now people build houses right ontop of a race track and then complain about the noise. B@stards.

Rev to 7000 rpm and they check it at the rear, but they use a piece of wooden board to deflect the sound to the side a little. Not sure why. :y4:

Your comment is exactly what someone else said to me on Sat. Seems that unless some folk get their act together the site will be taken for it's land and property development value, which sucks big time!!! :y14:

Yep, I'm not sure how much longer the tracks gonna be there. Did you notice at the last regional round there wasn't any sponsorship anywhere around the track, except for the Goodyear bridge.
