I went to our loacl dealership (the famous TTC) last saturday morning, just to say hi and have a chat and some tea.

Bumped into an aquaintance who does a lot of track riding and has recently obtained a very fancy Honda track bike......

.......so I bought his previous track machine.... 2008 Daytona 675. :y2:

Seems I now have a new, if slightly dangerous hobby. :y13:

Good on you, and enjoy it. A friend of mine runs a Street Triple with a Kawasaki front end for track days. The 675 is a fantastic bike! P1090006.jpg

@Dave..... when I've had it re-sprayed. It is blue right now.
@Otherwise.... indeed. I am fortunate enough to also have a Street III R as a second road bike. It was riding this on the track that made me decide to get the Daytona.

That's awesome Silli, but please watch yourself and be careful.

When I bought the Ninja I have collecting dust, it was because the guy I bought it from had crashed his other track bike and couldn't ride anymore. He'd just bought it (the Ninja) to make into a track bike when he crashed. He even gave me helmets with the bike because his riding days were over....I felt really bad for the guy.....he was on crutches when I came to look at the Ninja and you could tell he was really depressed.

I have a close friend a year or so older than I who just made a decision to quit riding, He began riding when he was 12. His health is bad and just cannot physically ride very long and very far. He used to race bikes and was quite good. He says this decision was like his decision to give up racing - you know when it is time. I am sad for him; but he is not sad. He said it is just time to move on.

I'd love to have a 675 for track. There is a great track 50 mins from here, Thunderhill Raceway. The bike is just the beginning of the expense, gear, tire, fuel, entry fees, it would be FUN!

I am aware of the risks, but hopefully I have sufficient fear to prevent me taking unnecessary risks. Its a great adrenalin buzz. Going to Kyalami again on the 30th.

Don't get too worried about it. Remember track days aren't racing days. You do it your way and enjoy the fun.

I didn't want to sound like anyone's Mother....LOL!!!

Actually, the more I think about it, you are probably WAY safer on the track that you are riding TO the track!

So thrash that thing like a scalded cat!! :y2:

Silli, if you're serious about track days you do get any schooling better than California Superbike School.
It IS expensive but afterwards you will realise that it is worth the money.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

...

Just collected the bike and rode it back to work - 55km.
Wow.... this thing is scary.
The final drive sprocket is 1 tooth below standard....... before I knew it I was doing 220kph (136mph) on the highway.
Going to take some careful getting used to!!
