Went to dealer to give my little buddy some stationary seat time on youth dirt bikes. As we were walking through the dealer a sight that never happens took place. The wife saw a Street Triple R and was in love, said I should trade in the Thruxton. She was serious, now I love the Thruston but I'll admit I still haven't rid myself of SportBike Fever. Now the question remains do I or don't I? Especially is she is in support of it. :-)

Anyone with a S3R want to talk me out of it? Or in to it? :-) It may not be hard.

I've had experience in this area.
I had one of the first Street Triples, just before the R was introduced. I loved it but my wife wouldn't ride with me because the seat and pillion footrests are rubbish for most women. Sold it and got a new T100 to accommodate the wife. Yes I very much liked the T100 but after a year and my wife only doing a few coffee runs on the T100 I traded it for a new Street Triple R. Now 4 years on and I do long for another T100 or possibly a Thruxton, but I know too well that they're slow and heavy compared to my beloved Street Triple R.

Thinking on a little ...
If you live in a city I'd say keep your Thruxton.
If your wife rides pillion keep your Thruxton.
If you have open country road available and you ride solo ... get going to the shop, your new dream baby awaits.

The Speed and Street Triples do not have a sport bike riding position. The pegs are rear set, but not drastically so. I am comfortable on a Speed Triple. But they are for solo riding.

I agree. They aren't sport bikes in that sense, and they're great bikes for solo riding, but will very quickly become very uncomfortable for a passenger.
The Street Triple is more of a "hooligan" bike than your Thruxton, and would be a good replacement for that if you're looking for speed and grunt, but if you're thinking of taking a passenger, I wouldn't to it - unless you just wanted to add to your stable.
Think ahead and about the intended purpose of the bike in the long run.
I only ever ride alone, and will only ever ride alone, so the choice would be easy for me.
If I had to choose between the Thruxton and the Street Triple I would take the Triple.
But then I already have a Bonneville T100 - which is Thruxton-like :y2:

Is it an absolute that you can only have one of the two?
My experience on a Street Triple R is limited to a track day but believe me,forget 'Fifty Shades Of Grey', THIS is the most fun you can have wearing leather!
No matter how good your intentions,as you get on,your neck gets thick and a red mist decends over your eyes. The throttle appears to have only two positions,'on' and'off'...mostly 'on'.
Be warned!

Oh dear what a position to be in, a friend of mine recently sold his Daytona 955i in British racing green, something I thought he'd never do in a million years, and traded down to a Thruxton, he'd been pondering over this change for 2 years as to whether or not to do it. Well 18 months later and he loves his Thruxton and to his surprise doesn't miss his 955.
You can only go with what your hearts telling you. I have a 1995 Thunderbird and can honestly say that I'll never sell it, this is because for me there's no other bike like it for sale now that comes close in terms of the grin and satisfaction factor. ( Mind you an 800 Tiger is very nice, but no I'll resist the urge )
Whatever you decide enjoy it.

We'll I live in the real world ! And keeping the wife happy means your happy ! So go for it ...you can always get another thruxton or if you can jiggle it have both ! Why worry go with the flow life is to short .

Take a test ride --WITH her -- on the Speedy ....if she likes the pillion, your aces.
