I rode a Rocket, like you I love the engine but the bike has major flaws IMHO.

There ya go. I felt the same. I rode home on my speedmaster from that demo thinking to myself, wow, i like the speedy a lot more ! Unfortunately the power is just so intoxicating. happily tho with the 1700 and short pipes the Tbird isn't too far off and i think a great map will make it even closer.

:silent: :silent: :silent: That has another meaning here in SA :y114:

And it has that same meaning in the US. :y114:

There is nothing more satisfying then pulling away from a stop and feeling that monstrous pull trying to yank your arms out of thier sockets.

Boy how I love this as well better than any high speed ride :y115:

Yeah, i know. I've seen that and it's not right, i guarantee it. The old honda 450 did about that and I even found 1/4 mile times for my old speedmaster that were about the same. Trust me....dead stock as a 1600 mine was in another world compared to me speedmaster. Not even close, so that time is nuts. As a 1700 it's in another galaxy altogether. I believe it would whip my old kawi 750 2 stroke triple in some scenarios, and that had the fastest 0-60 time of any bike for years an even today beats the R3 by 1/10 of a sec. It may now whip it 0-60 but after 60 the 2 stroke ran out of steam and mine takes off like a rabbit from 80 and hit's 120 in no time. Don't believe everything you read. I read that the 1600 and the 1700 both ran the same 1/4 times. This is so laugable my head is still shaking back and fourth !

Too many bikes, not enough garage space..
Today I was wishing I still had my Roadglide and Scrambler vs. what I have now.

I honestly can say the Tbird is by far the best thing i've ever owned or ridden. So i don't really long for anything aside from my old 2 strokes which are a whole other story. I love those things ! Just a whole other feel and all. By the way, i thing the street bob is 13.5, not 12.5. And that makes more sense because 12.5 is just too quick for a bike with that engine. I'm sure the Tbird also couldn't do that, at least not in stock 1600 form. 1700 tho i have no doubt.

Gary, I can relate. Not enough garage space and certainly not enough $$$.

There is a clean Suzuki GT380 for sale here in town. I was tempted.

Same here. Saw a GT550 (exact same bike but larger bore) in nearly mint condition. I could never do it for a number of reasons, bit i would love to. If i owned a home i would. Those are my fav 2 strokes, the suzuki triples.

I had a GT500 new in 1972.

Yeah, the twin. I always wanted one of those badly but never got one. I had it's little brother tho, the 350. I also had the GT750 water buffalo and a GT380. The 750 was a fantastic bike, but believe it or not the 380 had the better engine. i bought the 750 new and by 7000 miles it already had pretty bad piston slap, which was normal for 2 strokes after a number of miles, but not that soon. My little 380 never developed slap in the time i had it, well past the 7000 mile mark. i think i had 15 or 20k on it when i sold it. But the 750 was one heck of a bike anyways. I had a kawi 750 triple which was the bike everyone talked about when it came to quick, but i swear the suzuki seemed just as quick, tho the wheel didn't become airborn in the first 3 gears like the kawi. :ya2:

IMHO, it's ugly, ergonomics are questionable, it's ugly, it's too heavy, it's ugly, too many plastic parts, it's ugly, bad MPG and......it's ugly

Which flaws are these?????

For me it's just a matter of several things i personally wasn't too fond of. Not anything wrong with it, just taste thing. However, there have been a lot of mechanical issue written about with them and one i even experienced with my demo. So the mechanical issues would have been a concern but i can't say whether i would have passed on it or not if those were the only things. But the bike just wasn't in line with what i like in ways that others do like. So it was in large part subjective. the Tbird is just a very different bike and fit perfectly in line with what i like. So don't take it the wrong way. There are people who go on about the Tbird and i don't mind at all because i know that I love what they hate. however, it's when they start lying about it or saying things that aren't true because they never rode one. If it's just a matter of not liking the feel or look etc, then i just smile and think to myself thank go.....because if not for people like that i'd be riding the new harley and seeing my bike everywhere i go. :ya2:
