Speedy for Bonnie ?

Lately, after riding I suffer with back pain for a couple of days.
Now, at the moment I am suffering a re lapse of the big c, and have a double fist sized tumor in my lower abdomen which wont be helping, but I'm heading up to my dealer in an hour or so to see if he has a demo bonnie I can take for a spin.
I am hoping the different seating position will help, cos I sure a hell dont wanna give up riding for the next year while they sort out my problem.
Any comments from anyone who's done the cruiser to traditional swap?

I don't have 'C', but I've got my own problems. I can tell you though that footpeg location is probably just as important , if not more so, than handlebar placement.
Basically you have three contacts with controlling a motorcycle: -
Wrists / forearms
Back
Feet / legs

The back is probably the crucial link in the system.
A strong back will make up for weak wrists and legs.
Strong wrists won't help your legs and vice versa.
Stomach muscles (as you know) aid you back muscles alot - perhaps it's time for an Ab-buster.lol - just kidding.

I long for a Thruxton, but my body will hate me forever if I buy one.
I moved from Superbikes to my Speed Triple for that same reason. Thing is though - I"m lovin' it.

I used to get a back ache after two or more hours in the saddle on the Bonnie. That is one reason I do not have acruiser. The feet forward position puts all the weight on my tailbone and spine. I would really like to ride the new T-Bird for about thirty minutes to see if that is the case with it. It is not as feet forward as most cruisers. I did try and America and a Speedmaster before I bought my T100 and my back was not comfortable on them. Different handlebars solved the back problem with my Bonnie. I can easily ride six or more hours.
 
The only thing that really struck me when sitting on a T100 was the hard seat. Otherwise the seating position seemed great. Never did take on for a ride but I think I should at some time
 
Well, I've gone and ridden the bonnie

Seriously tho, it did NOT hurt my back, however by the same token, it did not float my boat.
Tis hard to put my finger on it, but when I got home I climbed straight on my speedy and it was good.
Wot was immediately obvious was the bonnie is a smaller bike, and with the slightly higher seat height I definately felt I was sitting on it as opposed to sitting in it, which is how the speedy feels.
Anywhoo, am going into Welly tomorrow for some tests, so I will call into the Harley dealer there and have a look at the 1200R or XL.That has mid mounted pegs, so I will see how that feels.
Only thing is, if I buy a harley, you lot will give me curry. :tongue:

unfortunately Dave, I'm not in a position to trade up, I'm pretty much stuck to wot my speedy is worth.

Yeah I know what you mean I am in the same position right now. I have never been for a ride on a Harley as yet but looking at them the pegs seem even further forward than the Speedy. I will however be very interested to hear your ride report on one :y18:

The pegs are in the normal position on this one so that should sort that problem out. I cannot recall ever seeing on of these. However we don't have such a huge amount of Harley's around here.

On a serious note , if your bike felt right then thats the bike for you .

Called in to the H D dealer in town today re the 1200 sporty they had.
The boss guy wasnt prepared to swap that one for my speedy, but he did offer me this 2003 anniversary model.

This one was a K cheaper than the other one cos its got 66K on the clock compared to 18K on the other one.
Anyway, long story short, I test rode it and I wont be buying it.
I thought the bonnie I rode yesterday felt small, but this felt even smaller, tho it did sit better. Alas, she was a bit of a clunker which I'm sure was down to the high mileage, and I was dissapointed in the power delivery. Being 50% bigger than the speedy, I would have expected more, but it didnt feel like it had any more at all.
They allso had a 99 T-Bird in there but they wouldnt swap out for that either.
So at this point I am seriously looking at making up some mid pegs for my bike, Which is probably the logical choice, and cheaper as well.

Funny when I first saw the photo it struck me as looking a lot smaller than the Speedy but I was not sure. Mid pegs would be the thing to go for and it seems you are quite good with bashing up things :y114:

:silent: s' funny, I thought I might suggest something along those lines but thought my ol man and his triumph crew would clip my ears for suggesting you modify the speedy, I think it can be done and is probably one of the best ways to approach the issue.

Well as it turns out I've had a wee look at the under side of the bike and there just happens to be a hole in each side of the frame in the perfect position, so will just be a matter of fabricating some brackets to come up and out over the pipes to take the pegs.
Trouble is, if I makem out of wood they may catch fire from the pipes. :happy:
