Having set my 72 T120v up well to run with pancakes ,some scumbag has pinched them and everyone in the UK seems to have sold out off offsets so I have purchased a pair of k&N type cone filters . I am struggling to set them up .Pancakes were 190 jet. needle position two, 1.5 turns ) so I first simply raised the needle and screwed in the mixture screw a quarter I then tried a 200 main jets and played around with the needle heights and mixture screw . with a 200 it seems to works best with needle position 1 . I am thinking that the bike is lean ( slight backfiire from carbs and riding it around the block it feels as though it has the choke on ,no acceleration put will tick over As I only had a 190 and 200 main jet I have run out of options so before I free a few moths from my wallet , I wondered whether anyone can point me in the right direction with a set up that they have found works for them . I can then use this as a baseline and try to get a decent set up for me . By the way I am running standard pipes and have no other mods to the engine apart from a + 0.020" piston, valves set as 0.002" inlet and 0.004" exhaust. Appreciate your help

Hi there I have had nothing to do with the older meridian Triumph's ... but dont assume the K&N filters are breathing more than your pancacks , Ive had issues in the past were K&N filter were breathing less than the original system .

So you may be running rich ?

I think you are right I have reverted to a 190 main jet which is better but I am struggling to get them dialled in as well as I had the pancakes working. I have reached out to Amal for some advice

There's a few pancake filters on eBay that state Triumph/Amal fit. Don't use them myself, so don't know if suitable.

Thanks Solomon because it is an OIF I need offset pancakes for 900 carbs I think I may have some on order I say may because two suppliers accepted my order and then refunded because of no stock.Hopefully 3rd time lucky and if so then the added bonus is that it is a supplier I didn't know of

Old bikes are easy to steal bits off. Can lift saddle and take ignition and battery. I sometimes put a chain through wheel and over saddle.

Easy to steal whole bike come to that. Ignition lock is accessible, can wrap a wire around its terminals and it's ready to go. Needs kickstarting of course, virtually impossible without knowledge how, but must've been a Triumph owner that stole the pancakes.

Sad though.
