Found this Owl in my garden (yard) 2 weeks ago, seconds before my Jack Russel had him for lunch. Puss in his eyes and one swollen closed, covered in blow-flies etc.

Crappy cell phone pic.....

Got him to a rescue center via my vet, and I was given a case number so I could check his progress.

This afternoon he was returned to me for release - looking a lot better.

Seconds after I took this pic he flew away without so much as a thank you!

I love owls ! They are my fav non domesticated animal. I'm glad to see that one is doing well. I had a great horned owl, which that one also appears to be, when i was 14 for a while. It had been shot in the wing and i took it to a vet, and at that time the laws weren't so strict as they are now and the vet treated him and released him back to me with medicine for him ! Today you'd likely be arrested just taking him to a vet. Anyways, i took him home and kept him in the garage till he healed. He ended up getting loose before he finished his medicine, but since he could fly i hoped he'd be ok. I still have a very very slight scar on my lower lip where he bit me when i got my face to close to him ! ROTFL

by the way, you gotta wonder what the heck that poor owl was thinking ! he gets sick, a human grabs him, takes him to a place where he's put in a cage and poked and prodded then a few weeks later he's let go. Sorta like an alien abduction. Poor owl had to be freaked out !:y2:

Dale, I raised a screech owl who had gotten blown out of his nest in a storm. The mother did not retrieve it; so we raised it. We took his cage out side and helped him learn to fly. Eventually he took off on his own.

yes my dad raised a little owl when i was a boy , it stayed for 11 months and then my dad let it go .
it came back every winter for 7 years and lived in the porch ,and in spring left again .

I love those ! Thats my fav owl. Always wanted one to keep, tho i know it's not right to keep them as pets. If i had one that couldn't fend for itself somehow i'd sure love to keep it.

Awesome story, i love that.

He/she is a beaut! I love those great horned owls.

Some Plains Indian tribes believe the owl is the messenger of a death. Other tribes, such as my ancestors believed owls were a good sign and a protector.

Here, too; but the whites learned it from the American Indians - unless they brought those beliefs from Europe. My family, European and American Indian, did not hold that belief.
