Sealed Beam Headlamp Help

Well, I managed to break the brand new headlamp lens I recently bought :y14:

Basically, I realized the light was doing the intermittent thing when I'd hit a bump so I opened the headlamp bucket to check the ground. Of course I allowed it to drop on the cement while I was checking the wires.

Anyhow, while I await a new lens I decided to put a 7 inch sealed beam unit in it's place temporarily. Since my T140 has the old Lucas style bulb and connectors, I also bought a 3 prong female plug to use with the sealed beam unit.

I stripped the 3 wires and put bullet connectors on the ends so I can switch-out between the modern plug and the Lucas one quickly and easily.

HOWEVER....when I connect the 3 prong plug's wires to the stock wiring, I only get a weak low beam and what looks like a very bright high beam. And while it's on LOW, my high beam indicator glows dully (and comes on bright when I switch to HIGH BEAM on the handlebar switch).

I took the sealed beam bulb out and used an ohmeter to check the continuity and was surprised to find that the LOW and HIGH terminals are connected as well as each one to the ground terminal.

This has me stumped. The Lucas bulb works fine when connected the same way???

I'm figuring it has something to do with the POSITIVE EARTH....but I'm using the same ground as was used with the Lucas connector??
