Heck Don, half way between here and Denton is a big mining operation too and Sam's Restaurant is right down the road.

Bumping this back up, I haven't had the chance to make it out to the mining areas around here. Maybe someone will grab it before I get the chance to head out for it.

Sorry Carl that shot isn't mine, I lifted it from the web. It is the mine on the side of the mountain close to home that I'll probably have access to next week. I'll get a shot soon looking from the coast towards the mine to show the other perspective, it isn't as imposing looking up as it is looking down as in that photo.

I just received the call about going to the mine entrance for the photo. Unfortunately someone higher up than my mate was told and the "nanny mindset" struck. Can't get in at this time for OH&S reasons. They work in the most dangerous job underground and it's too dangerous for me to take a photo on the surface. Joke, but it isn't my mine so have to say thanks anyway and roll with it.
We do have some old mine equipment displayed in a couple of parks not too far away but that isn't a mining operation.
