I'm trying to dismantle the front forks of my Rickman CR, they are the large 41mm Rickman forks, and I have reached an impasse.

I have removed the bottom nut but it seems the center shaft may be threaded in to the outer housing and needs some sort of tool to remove it. Can anyone describe the tool that does this job? There seems to be a large slot in the top but it's really too large for a screwdriver. The outside 'may' be hexagonal but I can't find a socket that fits.

I also cannot remove the circlip that holds the top seal with the fork tube in place so it seems the fork tube must be removed for the circlip and seal to be removed.

Any help in this area will be very much appreciated. If anyone knows a forum like this one that other Rickman afflicted congregate I would be grateful for a suggestion.

You absolutely should be able to remove the circlip that retains the seal, with the stanchion tube in place. That is the only way the stanchion assembly can be removed from the slider leg in order to replace the seal and remove all of the inner damper components. Sometimes you need an assistant with a tiny screwdriver or pick to follow behind you as you handle the circlip pliers.

Thanks for the reply. I've ordered a better set of circlip pliers that should be here today and will try again. What about the center shaft? With the bottom nut now removed how does it come out?

Thanks again,

Ian
