Well, I rode down to the Vintage Grand Prix in Schenley Park in Pittsburgh on Saturday. It was rather overcast but very humid and warm. Luckily, there was no rain however.

I didn't take many photos of the actual racing as it's a very twisty course and there's not much opportunity to get really good action photos. I did get a good number of vintage cars and even a few bikes that I found interesting......

Wow this thread brought back some sweet memories. Seeing those old cars on the track takes me back to when I used to marshal at our local race track here. Love that TR-6 in British Racing Green to me that is the color that car should always be it just fits the car. Now that Honda 750 four takes me back to the one like that I used to own, had such great fun on that bike back then.

great pics AJ and looks like a fantastic avent ......you could just as well be at goodwood festival of speed with all those old brit cars, youv'e got more classic brits over there than we have here !!!

Thanks for sharing the photos AJ. Those were great and I would have really liked to have been there to see them in person.

I agree with you Dave, the TR-6 has to be green, no other color works on it in my book.

It's a car event, so the bikes were just there as hanger-ons.

The cars in the car show (not the racers) have to get there under their own power...no trailers.

That old blue MG TC S-Type was driven from Westerville, Ohio (near Columbus) which is a good 4-5 hours away by modern car. I don't know how long it took in that.

I should have entered my own TR-6 (in proper BRG of course):

It bugs me that most TR-6s and other classic British cars in shows don't have the proper wheels and tires. To me, that cheapens them and doesn't show a good restoration. It's easy to buy a new set of MINILITES or other wheels and throw them on there. They OUGHT to have the CORRECT wheels...either steel disc or wire spokes with knock-offs. The CORRECT tires weren't wide modern radials either. The proper tires were the original tubed radials with radial tubes, narrow, with a red pin stripe. Those tires were produced specifically for the TR-6.

I've got to agree with you AJ, any restoration should have the proper tires and wheels. Street rod or daily drivers can have aftermarket but restorations not.

AJ, your attitude to wheels on classic cars is just the same mine to Amal carbs on classic bikes.
What it all means is beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. :y15:

I was surprised that they did not specify that the original wheels were to be used and all other original parts. I am sure in our classic car shows this is the norm and you just cannot enter a custom car in some of the categories, same with the classic bike shows.

Although this pic is old and crappy (it was a Polaroid), as you can see my TR-6 has the proper Dunlop wire wheels with the proper Michelin tubed radials with the red stripe. I added a matching red pin stripe down the sides to highlight the red striped tires. Michelin no longer makes these tires although Coker Tire makes a copy (without the name Michelin on them). I bought 3 complete sets of them before they stopped producing them just so I would have them.

This car is all original with a few "PERIOD" improvements.......

Triumph Roll Bar
Triumph Rear Luggage Rack
York-Talbot dual racing mirrors (which came off of Jim Clark's actual Lotus F-1 car!!)
Three Weber carbs (as opposed to the two Zenith-Strombergs)
Monza stainless steel quad exhaust
Triumph stainless racing headers
10 row oil-cooler
Triumph extra-blade radiator fan
Pirannah ignition system
Spax shock absorbers

I also added heavy duty bracing plates to the stock differential mounts because this is a weak point on all TR-6s.
