Wow so they really do live a completely different lifestyle to what we know. What about breaking the law as you said in the earlier post if it were an Amish girl they would have dealt with it internal. So in what way would they deal with something like this then and how would it conflict with the normal law

What I meant there was that they wouldn't have reported this to the State Police and would have dealt out their own form of punishment.

Now in really serious things such as murder, they would have to notify the cops.

This strikes me as a bit odd really, why do people expect it to be dealt with in a different way because of being of a different race, creed or religion.

Edit - Dumb question I suppose they do in our PC world :y22:

There are exceptions within the laws for their religious beliefs. I don't believe they have to get marriage licenses like we do. They are exempt from paying Social Security too as an example.

It has nothing to do with PC and everything to do with the Constitution and freedom of religion. This is not at all unusual in the US.

Dave, American Indian tribes have similar exceptions are largely self governing. In the case of a murder, the FBI steps in and if anyone is charged, the person is tried in federal court. If an Indian commits a crime off of the reservation, the local laws come into effect; if it is a minor crime, the local law enforcement usually turns the perp over to the tribe for punishment. Crimes committed on the reservation are handled by the tribe. The reservations are considered separate nations.
