The cartoon video - "New Zealand, Not as Boring as People Say" ... wasn't one of those characters (or more?) the real Barack Obama?

My guess is that 99% of the white people inthe USA who know anything about New Zealand would absolutely love to emigrate there (I'm ready right now). However, I understand that unless you are wealthy or have some skill or profession regarded as "vital" its virtually impossible to get permanent residence there.

Gary I am do know it's a lot easer than getting into Australia and I think if you have some sort of qualification you can get in easy enough. I do know this is a prime destination for us South Africans leaving South Africa and we seem to get in ok. That is of course if they have not changed the process in the last few years

Gary, NZ appeals to me also. But unfortunately, at present I can't even consider a visit, much less a relocation.

:threadjacked:As long as this thread has been so successfully hijacked - I'll ask a question.

Wasn't the great soprano Kiri Te Kanawa a Maori? I seem to remember reading that somewhere.:threadjacked:

Hemi,

Those are ment to psyche THEMSELVES up and are not done on the field facing the other team......they are done in an inconspicuous manner.

Dave,

Those football goal celebrations are now banned as being excessive. Hockey fights are just that...actual fights that can sometimes break out between players. You get a penalty for fighting in hockey. And I've never heard of them having nicknames such as in that video.

Yes, Te Kanawa is Maori. A beautiful soprano indeed.

For whatever it's worth, I don't think there is anything in any sport worldwide, cheers, chants, psyche-ups whatever, quite a stirring as a tradional Haka. Even when it's done at a 'social' event, it's really wonderful to watch it being done properly. Maybe it's the purism or tradition of it that just gets me. Much in the same way as watching a Zulu warrior dance does. My heart just pounds!

And when it's the All Blacks doing it before a rugby game, then you just KNOW you're going to watch a brilliant match. On international rugby, IF SA is not playing, then I support the All Blacks. In the 5 Nations, I support Scotland (because their national anthem is so rousing and I'm 1/2 Scots) and 2nd, France (also because of their anthem and that's the other 1/2 of me).

Yes and no.

It's done where the other team can see and in some cases hear it. Both these and the Haka are done to psyche both THEMSELVES and the opponent. If it wasn't meant to be seen by the opponent and the crowd then they would do it in the locker room like the USA Olympic Hockey Team does.
